About the role
You will own the end to end credit risk strategy for our business borrowing products, defining the risk appetite and translating it into robust policies and controls. You will lead the design, implementation and monitoring of automated decisioning frameworks that balance growth with prudent risk management. You will partner closely with product, engineering and data teams to embed risk insights into new lending propositions from inception through to launch. You will build and mentor a high performing credit risk function, fostering a culture of curiosity, rigour and accountability. You will own key relationships with stakeholders across Monzo to ensure alignment on risk, compliance and commercial objectives. You will drive the development of pricing strategies that reflect risk profiles while supporting sustainable portfolio growth. You will champion data led decision making to continuously refine risk models and improve predictive power.

What you'll do
- Lead the conception and execution of credit and pricing strategies for Monzo business lending products.
- Establish robust risk governance processes to monitor portfolio performance and drive iterative improvements.
- Spearhead initiatives that strengthen credit underwriting, expand growth opportunities and manage portfolio risk.
- Collaborate with engineering, product, marketing, risk and control teams to design and roll out new products and customer journeys.
- Provide strategic leadership across Business Banking and Borrowing Collectives to ensure cohesive risk outcomes.
- Serve as a core member of the Borrowing Leadership Team, shaping Monzo's overall borrowing strategy and priorities.
- Analyse complex credit data to identify trends, test hypotheses and refine risk models.
- Translate regulatory requirements and industry best practice into practical policies and controls.
- Mentor and develop a team of credit analysts and managers, nurturing talent and performance.
- Partner with commercial stakeholders to structure lending solutions that meet customer needs and business goals.
- Define risk appetite statements and ensure alignment across product, operations and compliance.
- Own key metrics and dashboards to track risk, fraud and credit performance in real time.
- Contribute to the development of Monzo's data strategy as it applies to credit risk and decisioning.
- Act as a subject matter expert on business lending risk for internal and external audiences.
Requirements
- You hold the right to work in the UK and are eligible to work from one of our locations in Cardiff or London or are comfortable working remotely from across the UK.
- You have significant domain expertise in providing lending products to small and medium sized sole traders and limited companies.
- You have a track record of leading analytical credit teams in a fast paced, data driven environment.
- You possess a deep understanding of how business lending works, including regulation and industry best practice.
- You are passionate about customers and understand how credit strategies and policies shape customer outcomes.
- You are comfortable balancing competing priorities such as growth, risk, speed and compliance.
- You have experience designing and implementing automated decisioning frameworks for credit risk.
- You have a strong understanding of portfolio risk management and credit performance metrics.
- You demonstrate strong leadership, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
Nice to have
- Experience working within a regulated financial services environment.
- Knowledge of lending products specific to the UK small business market.
- Familiarity with machine learning applications in credit risk.
- Experience with credit risk modelling, scorecard development and performance monitoring.
- Background in product management or cross functional delivery in financial services.

- This is a full time role based in Cardiff, London or remote (UK).
- Compensation includes a base salary range and performance tied incentives along with Monzo's standard benefits.
- The successful candidate will engage with cross functional teams and may require travel within UK locations for meetings or events.
