Staff Product Marketing Manager
Job description
About the role
MongoDB is seeking a Staff Product Marketing Manager to develop and manage our go-to-market strategy for the Public Sector, initially concentrating on the Federal Government and the wider public sector market. This position is critical for establishing MongoDB's Industry Verticals product marketing team, where you will articulate how our unified data platform - encompassing cloud, on-premises, and hybrid database solutions with integrated AI capabilities - meets the needs of government clients.
You will transform a significant compliance achievement into a lasting competitive advantage by crafting the positioning, messaging, and sales materials that enable government agencies, systems integrators, and cloud/public-sector resellers to recognize MongoDB as the optimal data platform for critical, regulated workloads. Prior experience in government or public-sector roles is not necessary; what is essential is your expertise in product marketing and your ability to quickly become knowledgeable in a new area while collaborating closely with compliance, product, and sales teams.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Lead the creation of positioning and messaging for MongoDB's Public Sector go-to-market strategy, starting with the federal sector and later expanding to State & Local Government and Higher Education.
- Convert MongoDB's data platform features - such as document databases, search, vector search, stream processing, and integrated AI - into relevant outcomes and value propositions for government clients and their systems integrators.
- Collaborate with Compliance, Security, Industry Solutions, and Product teams to accurately convey certification requirements in external materials, keeping up-to-date as MongoDB seeks additional authorizations (e.g., DoD Impact Levels, StateRAMP).
- Develop a sales enablement toolkit for the public sector, including battlecards, pitch decks, discovery guides, ROI/value models, and competitive intelligence, initially focused on federal procurement processes and later tailored for SLED.
- Create various content types - solution briefs, customer presentations, whitepapers, case studies, and web content - that advocate for MongoDB in regulated environments, adhering to public sector reference and PR approval processes.
- Work with Field Marketing, Demand Generation, and Partner Marketing to strategize and execute public-sector campaigns, events, and collaborative sales efforts with cloud hyperscalers, resellers, and systems integrators.
- Conduct competitive and win/loss analyses specific to the public sector, providing insights to inform positioning, sales strategies, and product development discussions.
- Act as the primary product marketing representative for public sector launches, readiness reviews, and engagements with executives and customers.
Requirements
- 5 to 8 years of experience in product marketing or a closely related field in B2B enterprise software or SaaS, with a proven track record of managing positioning, messaging, and product launches from start to finish.
- Ability to simplify complex technical products into clear, distinct value propositions for both technical and executive audiences; direct experience with data infrastructure, databases, or cloud platforms is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Comfort in learning and articulating regulatory and compliance concepts sufficiently to inform sales teams and create customer-facing content; previous experience in compliance or public-sector marketing is a plus but not required.
- Experience in creating and managing sales enablement resources (battlecards, playbooks, ROI tools) and collaborating effectively with sales and marketing teams.
- Strong cross-functional collaborator who can drive alignment among product, compliance, sales, partner, and communications teams without direct authority.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; capable of switching between mission-oriented narratives and technical details.
- Self-motivated individual who can navigate ambiguity and establish structure in a developing go-to-market strategy.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience; an MBA or a technical/quantitative background is a plus.
- U.S. work authorization is required; candidates can work from a MongoDB office or remotely within the U.S.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with FedRAMP, DoD Impact Levels (IL4/5/6), CMMC, or ITAR, either through personal knowledge or collaboration with compliance teams.
- Understanding of federal contract vehicles and procurement channels, such as GSA Schedules, NASA SEWP, or CIO-SP3.
- Experience working with federal systems integrators and resellers or federal-focused channel partners.
- Knowledge of federal budget cycles and how they influence campaign timing.
- Familiarity with StateRAMP and its differences from federal compliance standards.
- Understanding of state and local procurement processes and higher education purchasing agreements.
- Experience adapting a national narrative for a faster-paced SLED sales environment.
- Previous marketing experience targeting any public sector buyer (federal, state & local, or higher education).
- Experience with marketing database, data platform, analytics, or AI infrastructure products.
