About the role
You will operate within small cross-functional teams where converting abstract product ideas into reliable, production-grade code is your core ownership. Success in this role demands that you communicate technical trade-offs with clarity, giving written and verbal explanations the same weight as your implementation decisions. You will build and maintain backend services using Postgres as the preferred storage layer for data modeling and querying, ensuring correctness and performance at every layer. When full stack capabilities are engaged, you will extend your influence to user-facing interfaces using React and Typescript to deliver cohesive experiences. You will spend a significant portion of your week in planning sessions, code reviews, and debugging sessions, shaping the quality of the product before it ships. Your ability to translate complex technical decisions into plain language will determine how effectively you can unblock teammates and influence product direction. You will own the complete lifecycle of your work, from initial design through deployment and iteration, ensuring that outcomes are delivered, not just tasks.

What you'll do
Design and implement backend services using Postgres as the canonical data store, ensuring schema decisions support long-term maintainability and query efficiency.
Write and maintain high-quality Python code that powers core infrastructure, focusing on correctness, performance, and operational reliability in production environments.
Collaborate with cross-functional partners to translate ambiguous product requirements into technical specifications that guide implementation.
Contribute to user-facing features when full stack capabilities are engaged, leveraging React and Typescript to build responsive and robust interfaces.
Communicate technical decisions in plain language during planning, design reviews, and debugging sessions, aligning engineering and product stakeholders.
Analyze complex system behavior by reviewing logs, metrics, and traces to identify bottlenecks and drive targeted performance improvements.
Participate actively in agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily standups, and retrospectives to continuously refine team workflows.
Perform thorough code reviews that focus on readability, correctness, and long-term maintainability, ensuring shared ownership of the codebase.
Write and maintain automated tests and observability tooling that validate behavior and surface regressions before they impact users.
Evaluate new tools, libraries, and patterns, then champion adoption where they improve reliability or developer velocity.
Own ambiguous problems by breaking them into manageable pieces, validating assumptions through experimentation, and iterating toward stable solutions.
Mentor junior engineers by providing concrete examples from your work, explaining trade-offs, and fostering a culture of constructive review.
Requirements
You must have 7 or more years of professional software engineering experience, demonstrating sustained delivery in complex environments.
You must have extensive knowledge of SQL databases, specifically Postgres, including schema design, indexing strategies, and query optimization techniques.
You must be highly proficient in Python, able to write idiomatic code that scales and integrates cleanly with existing services.
You must be able to operate effectively in fast-paced settings where technical ambiguity is common and priorities shift frequently.
You must be eligible to work in the location specified for this role, with no sponsorship available for this position.
You must have experience working in startup or SaaS growth-focused environments, understanding how product and engineering intersect under pressure.
You must be comfortable writing tests, fixing bugs, and iterating on performance improvements as core parts of your daily responsibilities.
You must be able to contribute to user-facing code when needed, using React and Typescript to build and refine interfaces.
