About the role

This position involves building critical infrastructure to connect Mercury's modern systems with established financial institutions. You will be instrumental in creating the systems that handle every financial transaction and account interaction. This is a chance to shape the core of Mercury's banking operations.

Key facts

What you'll do

• Develop Mercury's connections to a core banking system approved by the FFIEC and to payment networks.
• Create internal application programming interfaces that simplify complex external systems for product teams.
• Manage the complexities of enterprise integrations, including handling errors, data format differences, and system outages.
• Construct data streams to ensure consistency between Mercury's systems and the bank core.
• Establish monitoring, alerts, and recovery procedures for vital external connections.
• Collaborate with various Mercury teams to define clear interfaces and dependable agreements.
• Contribute to the technical direction of Mercury Bank.

Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in software engineering, focusing on backend infrastructure and large-scale distributed systems.
• Demonstrated experience integrating modern distributed software with older, established infrastructure, ideally within a regulated industry.
• Familiarity with banking concepts such as accounts, transactions, ledgers, and their underlying data models.
• A product-oriented approach, considering the needs of developers who will use your APIs.
• A preference for building new systems over maintaining existing ones.
• Proficiency in Haskell or a strong willingness to learn it.
• Well-reasoned perspectives on creating dependable and maintainable systems.

Nice to have

• Experience with FFIEC-approved core banking systems.
• Prior work in fintech or banking.

• US employees (any location) base salary range: $200,700 - $250,900.
• Canadian employees (any location) base salary range: CAD $189,700 - $237,100.
• Compensation includes base salary, equity (stock options), and benefits.
