About the role
You will assist in identifying, analyzing, and assessing risk throughout Mercury to safeguard the company's financial integrity. This role involves scoping and planning comprehensive audits across finance and accounting functions while maintaining strict adherence to regulatory standards. You will conduct detailed process walkthroughs and execute audit testing to confirm the design and operational effectiveness of internal controls. Additionally, you will assess compliance with Mercury's obligations related to regulatory and financial reporting requirements. You will socialize, document, and clearly report any audit issues identified during the engagement. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop appropriate action plans and track issue remediation over time. Furthermore, you will conduct follow-up testing to ensure remediation efforts are implemented effectively. Over time, you will become a subject matter expert on Mercury's finance and accounting processes and contribute to the continuous improvement of the internal audit function.

What you'll do
Conduct risk assessments to identify and evaluate potential exposures within Mercury's finance and accounting environment.
Scope and plan audits across finance and accounting functions, ensuring alignment with Mercury's audit objectives and regulatory obligations.
Execute walkthroughs of financial processes to understand workflows, key controls, and potential points of failure.
Design and execute audit testing procedures to confirm the design and operational effectiveness of internal controls.
Evaluate compliance with Mercury's financial reporting obligations, including adherence to GAAP, IFRS, and other applicable accounting standards.
Review regulatory reporting requirements and ensure Mercury's processes meet the necessary legal and supervisory expectations.
Document audit findings clearly and concisely, including root cause analysis and potential impact on financial statements.
Socialize and report audit issues to appropriate stakeholders, facilitating transparent communication across the organization.
Collaborate with process owners and control teams to develop actionable remediation plans that address identified deficiencies.
Track and monitor issue remediation progress, conducting follow-up testing to verify the effectiveness of implemented controls.
Partner with external auditors and third-party consultants to coordinate testing efforts and reduce duplication of work.
Support the Internal Audit function in maintaining a robust control environment across all financial operations.
Apply professional skepticism and critical thinking to uncover potential risks that may not be immediately apparent.
Continuously improve audit methodologies and documentation to enhance the efficiency and consistency of audit engagements.
Requirements
Obtained related certifications (CISA, CIA, CPA, etc).
Have experience scoping and planning new, complex audits within finance and accounting environments.
Have experience leading audit teams and coaching team members to ensure high-quality deliverables.
Be comfortable conducting walkthroughs, creating audit test plans, and executing internal controls testing.
Have experience in leading finance and accounting audits, including financial statement audits and operational reviews.
Knowledge and experience auditing SOX, GAAP, IFRS and other regulatory reporting requirements.
Have experience working with financial services companies, and possess a working knowledge of laws, regulations and risk management standards relevant to the financial services industry.
Possess the ability to quickly grasp and understand complex business processes and translate them into effective audit procedures.
Be able to build strong relationships and partnerships across functions to drive time-sensitive deliverables, issues tracking, and reporting.
Have excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Be able to manage their own schedule and prioritize multiple engagements to ensure deadlines are met consistently.
Be a self-starter who likes to innovate and think about how processes can be improved to increase efficiency and effectiveness.

Our salary and equity ranges are highly competitive within the SaaS and fintech industry and are updated regularly using the most reliable compensation survey data for our industry. New hire offers are made based on a candidate's experience, expertise, geographic location, and internal pay equity relative to peers. Our target new hire base salary ranges for this role are the following:
US employees in New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area: $132,400 - $165,500
US employees outside of the New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, or the San Francisco Bay Area: $119,200 - $149,000
Canadian employees (any location): CAD $125,100 - $156,400
