Product Manager, Trust & Safety

About the role

This role owns the end-to-end integrity of the Mercor marketplace, designing and operating the fraud detection and enforcement systems that protect the platform from sophisticated adversarial threats. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of Trust and Safety products, from initial hypothesis and signal definition through deployment, measurement, and iterative improvement. The position requires deep collaboration with engineering and data science to translate complex risk models into operational workflows and clear policy enforcement. You will design the operational stack, including the tools, dashboards, and audit trails used by analysts to investigate and resolve high-stakes safety incidents. Success in this role means maintaining a delicate balance between maximizing automated enforcement to scale the business and ensuring human oversight for complex or sensitive cases. You will work directly with enterprise customers to understand their specific trust and safety requirements and translate those needs into product requirements. Ultimately, this role defines the operational edge of the platform, ensuring that Mercor remains a reliable and trusted partner for AI advancement.

What you'll do

Define and own the fraud detection and enforcement strategy across the multi-agent system, including risk scoring, signal identification, and the operational workflows that drive analyst actions.

Design and manage the operational edge of trust and safety, establishing the workflows, policies, and evidence standards used by operations analysts to investigate and resolve cases.

Collaborate closely with engineering and data science teams to refine detection models and prompts, aiming to reduce false positive rates while maintaining strict control over false negatives.

Build the product and tooling layer for operations analysts, creating clear workflows, audit trails, and evidence bars that ensure high-severity decisions are defensible and traceable.

Write detailed specifications and PRDs for Trust and Safety features, translating business objectives and risk frameworks into concrete product requirements.

Pull and analyze SQL and large datasets to diagnose model behavior, signal dynamics, and the business impact of safety interventions.

Develop and maintain dashboards that provide real-time visibility into trust metrics, risk trends, and the performance of enforcement actions.

Partner with legal, compliance, and go-to-market teams to ensure that trust and safety policies align with contractual obligations and enterprise customer needs.

Work backwards from business and client trust objectives to prioritize Trust and Safety initiatives that support Mercor's long-term health and marketplace integrity.

Engage directly with strategic enterprise customers to understand their trust requirements and demonstrate how the platform protects their workflows and data.

Build the operational primitives that allow the Trust and Safety team to scale, creating tools that abstract complexity for analysts while preserving necessary rigor.

Own the feedback loop between production insights and future product development, ensuring that learnings from edge cases inform system-wide improvements.

Balance the tradeoffs between automation and human review, determining the appropriate level of automated decision-making as model accuracy improves.

Champion a culture of accountability, where outcomes are measured rigorously and tradeoffs between false positives and false negatives are made explicitly and consistently.

Requirements

You must have a minimum of five years of professional experience in product management, product operations, technical program management, trust and safety, risk, or fraud.

Prior experience addressing safety or integrity issues within a marketplace or high-volume transaction environment is a significant advantage.

You must possess technical fluency, including comfort with large datasets, AI agents, and the ability to unblock and accelerate engineering work.

You should be capable of reasoning about detection model behavior and signal dynamics, holding your own in technical discussions with engineers and data scientists.

Strong systems thinking is essential, with a passion for building repeatable processes and solving problems that span multiple disciplines.

Excellent project management abilities and cross-functional communication skills are required to coordinate efforts across engineering, data, operations, and legal.

You must thrive in ambiguous and adversarial environments, taking ownership of problems and driving execution through to measurable outcomes.

Sound judgment is required to weigh the cost of false positives against missed fraud cases, making these tradeoffs explicitly and consistently in policy and product decisions.

This position requires in-person work five days per week. Available office locations include San Francisco, New York City, and London.
