Brand Protection Specialist, Japan
Job description
Brand Protection Specialist, Japan
About the Role
This position establishes and owns the end-to-end brand safety journey for the Japanese market. The role involves shaping investigation methodologies, response protocols, and coordination with global teams. The work directly protects original ideas, innovations, and creative outputs from infringement. You will define how brand protection is executed locally while maintaining alignment with global standards.
Location and Engagement
The position is based in Tokyo, Japan. It is a full-time role designed for a hands-on operator capable of managing complex workflows independently. The compensation for this role is USD 134,000 per year.
What You Will Do
You will orchestrate intake workflows for brand infringement cases across e-commerce and social platforms. Designing proactive monitoring routines using our AI platform will be central to surfacing emerging risks before they escalate. Coordination of rapid removal campaigns with sales and customer success managers will be required for key enterprise accounts. Driving meticulous case management is essential to satisfy the precise and demanding expectations of Japanese brand holders. You will establish and maintain knowledge repositories that standardize best practices for brand protection teams. Adapting quickly to the fast-moving startup environment while maintaining a high sense of ownership is required. Building trusted relationships with both internal stakeholders and external platforms is a core component. You will guide junior colleagues through reviews to ensure quality standards are consistently met.
Requirements
You bring hands-on experience in intellectual property, technology, commerce, law, or operations. The ability to work autonomously is critical, including spotting issues and driving them through to resolution without constant supervision. You have a proven track record in cross-functional collaboration on complex projects. Strong results orientation and a commitment to hitting demanding goals are mandatory. Professional proficiency in Japanese and business-level fluency in English are required for communication and documentation.
Nice to Have
Direct experience in brand protection or counterfeit mitigation is valued. Familiarity with takedown processes on Amazon, Shopee, Alibaba, and various hosting providers is an advantage. Basic Korean language skills can support regional investigations. A background in data-focused disciplines or programming provides an edge. Industry familiarity with luxury, gaming, entertainment, automotive, cosmetics, or industrial equipment is beneficial.
Why This Role
You will directly handle intellectual property cases for iconic Japanese brands such as Panasonic, Nissan, Sega, and Mizuno. This role places you at the center of judgment, strategy, and negotiation, while AI handles initial detection tasks. You will learn from the country manager who pioneered the brand protection market in Japan from scratch. The position allows you to deepen expertise in uniquely Japanese counterfeiting challenges, including anime, games, precision equipment, and automotive parts. You will collaborate with global teams to absorb international best practices and standards.
