About the role

This position supports the advancement of mineral processing techniques, specifically for the CopperOne mine pilot facility. You will help move new mining technologies from lab research to full-scale commercial use. This is a hands-on, entry-level role assisting with bioleaching columns and other pilot equipment. What you'll do

• Operate and maintain pilot-scale processing equipment, including leaching columns, with technicians to ensure consistent data collection.
• Plan and conduct pilot experiments under the direction of senior engineers while documenting every step for reproducibility.
• Create and update essential process documents like PFDs, P&IDs, and operating instructions to maintain clear operational records.
• Examine experimental and operational data to find ways to improve processes and identify patterns that lead to optimization.
• Help create automated monitoring and optimization tools with software and machine learning teams to streamline workflow efficiency.
• Follow EHS procedures and assist with safety assessments and risk management to maintain a secure working environment.
• Support troubleshooting activities during pilot runs to resolve unexpected issues quickly and minimize downtime.
• Validate testing results through repeat trials and ensure that all project quality standards are consistently met.
• Coordinate with laboratory staff to prepare samples and manage inventory of testing materials and reagents.
• Communicate progress updates to cross-functional stakeholders during scheduled review meetings and project check-ins.
• Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures that align with industry best practices and regulatory guidance.
• Assist in the calibration of instruments and sensors used in pilot equipment to maintain measurement accuracy.
• Participate in root cause analysis investigations when process deviations occur and help implement corrective actions.
• Document lessons learned from pilot campaigns to inform future scale-up efforts and technology deployment strategies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, or a similar discipline from an accredited institution.
• 0 to 2 years of experience from internships, research, co-ops, or full-time positions that demonstrate foundational engineering knowledge.
• Strong ability to solve problems and an interest in developing experimental processes through systematic investigation and testing.
• Dedication to Health, Safety, and Environmental standards with a commitment to following all company protocols and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent technical writing, communication, and collaboration abilities to work effectively with diverse team members.
• Comfortable learning new skills and working with different teams in a dynamic setting that requires adaptability and quick thinking.
• Basic understanding of mineral processing concepts, including leaching, flotation, or related extraction methods.
• Willingness to work in a hands-on laboratory and pilot facility environment that may involve physical activity and extended hours during testing.

Nice to have

• Experience analyzing data with tools such as Excel, Python, or MATLAB to support quantitative assessments and reporting.
• Familiarity with process simulation software or digital tools used in mining and metallurgical engineering projects.
• Knowledge of bioleaching or hydrometallurgical processes and their application in commercial mining operations.
• Previous exposure to pilot plant operations or industrial testing environments where safety and precision are prioritized.
• Understanding of automation and data acquisition systems used in modern processing facilities.

Practical notes

This role is based full-time at the San Francisco HQ, requiring on-site presence for the duration of the engagement. The position does not involve travel requirements, allowing for a consistent daily schedule at the primary location. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of standard onboarding procedures and background checks as required by company policy.
