Mapbox is looking for a dedicated Staff Revenue Accountant to join their finance team at their US office location. This on-site role involves managing and executing revenue accounting processes, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting the company's financial reporting and audit activities. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in revenue recognition, accounts receivable, and working with ERP systems such as Netsuite. They will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting cross-departmental collaboration, and ensuring timely completion of billing and revenue recognition tasks. Key facts
What you'll do
- Assist with the monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue accounting close process for assigned areas, ensuring all revenue transactions are accurately recorded and compliant with relevant standards.
- Prepare monthly journal entries related to revenue and accounts receivable, ensuring proper documentation and adherence to company policies.
- Conduct balance sheet reconciliations and flux analysis for revenue and AR accounts to identify discrepancies and ensure data integrity.
- Manage the full accounts receivable process for committed customers, including invoice preparation, collections, maintaining customer billing portals, and making reserve recommendations based on collection risk assessments.
- Respond promptly to customer inquiries regarding invoices, payments, taxation issues, and invoicing prerequisites such as procurement of purchase orders and completion of supplier registration forms.
- Oversee the order to cash process by reviewing customer contracts, syncing opportunities from Salesforce to Netsuite, and setting up sales orders in the accounting system to ensure proper revenue recognition and compliance with company policies.
- Collaborate closely with other departments such as Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), Billing, Analytics, Revenue Operations, Support, and Sales to support business processes and ensure alignment on revenue recognition and billing practices.
- Assist in preparing documentation, schedules, and supporting materials for the annual financial statement audit, working with auditors to ensure compliance and accuracy.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of revenue recognition standards and ensure company practices align with current regulations and best practices.
- Support process improvements in revenue accounting workflows to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Participate in internal control reviews related to revenue and billing processes, helping to identify and mitigate risks.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of internal policies and procedures related to revenue recognition and accounts receivable management.
Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years of accounting experience, with at least 1-3 years specifically in revenue accounting roles.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Proven experience working with Netsuite or similar ERP systems, demonstrating the ability to manage complex financial data.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets, with the ability to perform detailed data analysis and modeling.
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
- Results-driven mindset with a focus on meeting weekly and monthly billing deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external customers.
- Knowledge of revenue recognition standards and accounting principles applicable to SaaS or technology companies.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work under tight deadlines while maintaining high-quality work.
- Experience in handling customer inquiries related to billing, payments, and taxation is preferred.
Nice to have
- CPA certification, especially with Big 4 experience, which would enhance technical expertise.
- Familiarity with Stripe, Salesforce, and FloQast software tools.
- Experience working with usage-based or consumption-based revenue models, which are common in SaaS and platform companies.
- Knowledge of international revenue recognition standards if working with global customers.
- Prior experience supporting or participating in financial audits, particularly in revenue-related areas.
- Understanding of tax implications related to revenue recognition and invoicing in different jurisdictions.

Practical notes

The annual base salary for this role ranges from $102,000 to $130,000, with a 5% to 10% increase for locations with higher labor costs. The specific salary and job level will be determined based on individual qualifications, experience, and the work location.
