About the role
You will own the system-level electrical architecture for Mainspring's Linear Generator, defining how power flows from the generator through the power conversion hardware and into the utility grid. You will validate the performance and stability of grid-interactive inverters under real-world conditions, personally executing tests that push hardware to its limits in the lab. You will serve as the primary technical authority for power delivery, responsible for translating customer requirements into robust electrical system specifications that ensure reliability and compliance. You will fine-tune firmware control parameters to optimize efficiency, response time, and fault tolerance while maintaining strict adherence to emissions and safety standards. You will lead root-cause analysis on complex system-integration issues, working across electrical, mechanical, and software domains to keep projects on schedule. You will collaborate directly with global energy leaders to ensure our power solutions integrate seamlessly into diverse utility and data center infrastructures. You will document procedures, test results, and design decisions to create a clear knowledge base that supports manufacturing, field operations, and future product development. You will mentor junior engineers by providing hands-on guidance in test methodology, instrumentation, and electrical system diagnostics.

What you'll do
Perform detailed system architecture analysis for Mainspring's Linear Generator power path, defining interfaces between the linear generator, power conversion hardware, and external grid connections.
Execute comprehensive characterization testing of grid-interactive inverters, measuring efficiency, power quality, and transient response under varying load and environmental conditions.
Develop and validate control firmware parameters to ensure stable operation during grid synchronization, load transitions, and fault conditions.
Conduct rigorous stability testing of power conversion systems, using instrumentation and simulation tools to verify performance across the full operating envelope.
Lead root-cause investigations for system-level integration issues, correlating electrical measurements with mechanical and software behaviors to identify and implement fixes.
Collaborate with global energy partners such as AEP, NextEra Energy Resources, and Schneider Electric to align power solutions with utility requirements and site-specific constraints.
Design and implement test procedures that replicate real-world operating scenarios, including islanded and grid-following modes, to validate performance and compliance.
Analyze field performance data to identify trends, anomalies, and opportunities for optimization in power delivery, efficiency, and reliability.
Support the integration of new hardware and firmware updates into existing systems, ensuring backward compatibility and minimal disruption to deployed fleets.
Document all test methods, results, and design decisions in a clear, structured format that supports manufacturing, quality assurance, and customer engagements.
Partner with cross-functional teams to translate customer requirements into actionable electrical system specifications and verification plans.
Provide technical leadership during prototype builds, pre-production validation, and commercial deployment phases to ensure smooth transitions from development to operations.
Requirements
Demonstrate a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related technical field, with a strong foundation in power electronics, control systems, and circuit analysis.
Bring 8+ years of relevant experience in power electronics, system integration, or electrical engineering roles focused on grid-interactive technologies.
Show proven ability to work with high-power conversion hardware, including inverters, transformers, and power factor correction systems.
Exhibit hands-on experience with test and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, power analyzers, and data acquisition systems.
Display strong understanding of grid interconnection standards, electrical safety codes, and emissions compliance requirements.
Possess excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose complex system-level issues using a combination of measurement data and analytical reasoning.
Communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats, with the ability to present technical information to cross-functional teams and external partners.
Demonstrate a collaborative mindset, working comfortably in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment where electrical, mechanical, and software teams must align on shared objectives.
Nice to have
Experience with fuel-flexible power systems and distributed generation technologies.
Familiarity with utilities and energy markets in deregulated environments.
