About the role
Mach is at the forefront of developing sophisticated autonomous defense systems designed for environments where conventional navigation methods fall short. In this position, you will oversee the Linux mission computer that integrates various cameras and sensors, ensuring that the autonomy stack performs in real-time despite stringent hardware constraints. Your responsibilities will include initializing compute systems, integrating high-bandwidth sensors, and fine-tuning the autonomy software for optimal performance.

What you'll do
- Oversee the complete lifecycle of the Linux mission computer, which includes managing board support packages, device trees, and bootloaders specifically for NVIDIA Jetson/Tegra and comparable system-on-chips (SoCs).
- Integrate high-bandwidth sensors such as MIPI CSI cameras using GMSL/FPD-Link SerDes and radar over PCIe or Ethernet, ensuring precise time synchronization and calibration.
- Develop and enhance the real-time data flow from sensors to the GPU for tasks like perception, localization, and inference, with a focus on zero-copy techniques and efficient GPU memory management.
- Establish and maintain the execution environment for autonomy and machine learning on-target, which includes setting up CUDA/TensorRT runtime and edge containers.
- Customize and compile embedded Linux images utilizing Yocto or L4T to ensure consistent and reproducible deployments.
- Strengthen the compute and sensing platform against challenges such as power, thermal, vibration, and boot reliability issues, while diagnosing problems on the actual hardware.
- Collaborate with electrical engineers to define software-hardware interfaces during board design and troubleshoot integrations using tools like logic analyzers and oscilloscopes.
- Contribute to the autonomy runtime, which encompasses middleware, health monitoring, and state management, drawing on your extensive knowledge of the Linux compute environment.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in embedded Linux development on custom hardware, with solid expertise in device tree configuration, BSP customization, and kernel bring-up.
- Demonstrated experience in integrating cameras and sensors on Linux platforms, particularly MIPI CSI and V4L2 with GMSL or FPD-Link SerDes, while managing the sensor-to-memory pathway.
- Proficiency with Yocto or L4T-based build systems and strong programming skills in C, C++, Bash, and Python.
- Excellent hardware debugging capabilities using logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, CAN, and UART, along with the ability to interpret schematics and work collaboratively with electrical engineers.
- A proven track record of successfully deploying Linux-based compute platforms from initial setup to real-world application, including real-time and performance optimization.
- A keen interest in advancing into autonomy and on-target inference, going beyond merely maintaining the operating system and hardware.
Nice to have
- Experience with NVIDIA Jetson and the L4T stack, including familiarity with CUDA, TensorRT, GStreamer, and DeepStream for inference and media processing pipelines.
- Knowledge of ROS 2/copper-rs/dora-rs and the integration of autonomy, perception, or localization software on mission computers.
- Expertise in multi-sensor time synchronization and calibration techniques, such as PTP and hardware triggering.
- Skills in optimizing GPU pipelines and memory management, including DMA and zero-copy techniques under real-time constraints.
- Familiarity with Nix or NixOS workflows, along with strong opinions on Rust programming language.
- Experience working in contested or degraded environments, such as those with RF denial, low-light conditions, or high-vibration settings.
