What you'll do
Lead the development of intricate 3D models for satellite payloads and ground test fixtures using advanced CAD software.
Conduct rigorous structural, thermal, and vibration simulations to verify the survivability and reliability of mechanical hardware.
Define and manage the mechanical specifications and interfaces in collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams.
Oversee the integration, assembly, and verification processes for flight hardware components to ensure successful deployment.
Design and implement comprehensive mechanical test plans to validate performance under terrestrial and orbital conditions.
Execute mechatronic activities, including prototyping, hardware assembly, and rigorous verification testing.
Author and maintain detailed technical documentation for all designs, analyses, and manufacturing processes.
Perform detailed tolerance analysis and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to ensure manufacturability and function.
Utilize analysis tools such as Femap, NASTRAN, or Ansys to guide design decisions and solve complex engineering problems.
Apply programming skills in languages like MATLAB or Python to automate workflows and analyze test data.
Manage the full lifecycle of mechanical components from concept design through final qualification and delivery.
Ensure all hardware development adheres to project schedules, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
Support the development of ground equipment necessary for testing and validating satellite communication systems.
Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to optimize designs, processes, and manufacturing methods.
Requirements
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related technical discipline as a foundational requirement. A minimum of 3 to 6 years of professional experience in space hardware design, integration, or testing is mandatory for this position. You must have expert-level knowledge and application of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance analysis techniques. Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD software, specifically SolidWorks, is required to perform complex modeling tasks. Strong computer literacy is essential, including demonstrated fluency with the Windows operating system and Microsoft Office suite. The role necessitates the ability to manage large-scale CAD assemblies and produce detailed engineering drawings. A solid understanding of manufacturing processes, fabrication techniques, and machine shop practices is required. Experience integrating complex hardware systems, including entire satellite platforms, is a critical requirement. You must be capable of performing in-depth analysis using specialized engineering tools such as Femap, NASTRAN, or Ansys. Proficiency in scripting or programming languages such as MATLAB or Python is required to automate tasks and support analysis efforts. The position is subject to U.S. export control regulations under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), requiring U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, refugee, or asylee status.
