About the role
This position centers on owning the foundational systems that ensure map data accuracy, freshness, and coverage for every Lyft trip. The hire will be responsible for core ingestion pipelines that bring external and internal data into our mapping fabric. You will own critical conflation logic that aligns disparate data sources into a unified and coherent map representation. A key part of this role involves owning quality assurance infrastructure that validates the integrity of the map data before it reaches production. The role directly impacts ETA accuracy and pickup precision, which are vital for rider and driver satisfaction. You will work on the technology stack that enables industry-leading features such as CarPlay and Android Auto integrations. This is a mission-critical role where your work will empower the mapping organization to iterate quickly and deliver delightful, maps-focused experiences.

What you'll do
You will architect and maintain the core ingestion pipelines that process vast volumes of mapping data from diverse providers. You will build and own the conflation services that intelligently merge data sets to reflect the real world accurately. You will implement quality checks and monitoring tools to ensure map coverage meets stringent accuracy standards. You will collaborate with data science teams to incorporate machine learning signals into the map editing workflow. You will partner with operations teams to validate map changes against real-world driving conditions. You will work with backend engineers to optimize database schemas for storing complex map geometries. You will contribute to the development of APIs that expose map data to internal applications and drivers. You will participate in on-call rotations to ensure high availability of the mapping infrastructure. You will document complex data flows and system dependencies for long-term maintainability. You will mentor junior engineers by providing code reviews and technical guidance. You will present technical proposals to cross-functional partners to align on mapping roadmaps. You will investigate and resolve data quality issues reported by users and internal tools.
Requirements
You must hold a BS/MS degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field or have equivalent relevant work experience. You must bring a minimum of 3+ years of software engineering industry experience. You must demonstrate extensive experience with object oriented programming, ideally in GoLang or Python. Experience with Airflow and DAGs is considered a significant advantage for this role. You must have a strong background in backend software development of distributed systems and concurrency. You must possess practical experience working with databases, whether relational or NoSQL. You must have strong oral and written communication skills. You must be able to collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners and influence without authority. You must be legally authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship for this position.
Nice to have
Preferred experience with cloud platforms, specifically AWS services, is listed as a desired qualification. Experience contributing to open source projects is viewed favorably. Knowledge of mapping data models and geospatial concepts is considered a bonus. Familiarity with version control workflows using Git is expected at a professional level. Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code principles is regarded as an asset. Experience with monitoring and observability tools is valued highly. Background in data engineering or analytics is seen as a positive attribute.
