About the role
This role focuses on owning the end user mapping experiences that directly enhance how drivers and riders interact with Lyft's platform in real time. You will be responsible for designing and delivering high-impact features that power the in house navigation system used across the application. The position requires you to innovate new solutions that ensure mapping data remains accurate, reliable, and performant for every user interaction. You will own the full lifecycle of large scale features from initial design through launch and post launch improvements. Collaboration with multiple disciplines will be central as you work to unblock partners and align on shared goals. Your work will directly influence the quality and speed of mapping related decisions across the organization. You will play a key role in maintaining the digital representation of the physical world that makes Lyft's real world interactions possible.

What you'll do
Drive high impact projects and innovate new solutions to provide the best user experience for mapping features across Lyft's products.
Lead large features from idea to positive execution and launch while coordinating with cross functional teams.
Write well crafted, well tested, readable, and maintainable code that scales within cloud environments.
Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and distribute knowledge, as well as on call rotations for critical mapping services.
Share your expertise through brown bags, tech talks, and internal presentations that promote strong engineering practices.
Unblock, support, and communicate with internal partners to achieve timely and high quality results.
Collaborate with engineering, product, data science, analytics, operations, and AI/ML teams on programs that enable rapid iteration.
Deliver mapping experiences that delight both passengers and drivers by focusing on rideshare specific requirements.
Ensure system architecture decisions align with long term scalability, reliability, and performance goals.
Leverage in house navigation systems to create intuitive and accurate routing experiences for users in real time.
Work with databases, relational or NoSQL, to manage mapping related data efficiently and securely.
Contribute to the design and launch of features that strengthen Lyft's position as a leader in real time mapping and navigation.
Continuously evaluate and improve existing mapping pipelines to support evolving product needs and data sources.
Act as a technical leader who mentors peers and helps elevate the overall quality of the codebase.
Requirements
BS/MS or equivalent in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field or relevant work experience.
5+ years of software engineering or production infrastructure industry experience.
Experience designing, debugging, and running fault tolerant, highly available, large scale distributed systems.
Experience working with public cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Microsoft Azure.
Experience working with databases, whether relational or NoSQL, in production environments.
Led a set of components from design through launch without relying on constant supervision.
Proficiency with Go and Python would be a huge plus for this role.
Ability to work independently while still collaborating effectively with cross functional teams.
Strong understanding of mapping data structures, algorithms, and real time navigation concepts.
Willingness to participate in on call rotations and respond to production incidents quickly.
Commitment to writing tests and ensuring code quality across the team.
Openness to feedback and continuous learning in a fast paced environment.
Excellent communication skills for coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
Passion for improving transportation systems through accurate digital representations of the physical world.
