Flight Analyst
Job description
About the role
Flight Analyst
Long Wall Company invites applications for a Flight Analyst dedicated to the rigorous validation of missile defense systems. This position exists at the intersection of analysis and execution, where your work will directly determine the viability of test missions. You will architect testing strategies, de-risk flight profiles, and ensure that every launch decision is grounded in robust quantitative evidence. The role demands a generalist thinker capable of deep dives across multiple technical domains to guarantee mission success.
Primary Responsibilities
You will architect the testing strategy for Long Wall's containerized missile defense prototypes. Your analysis will serve as the gatekeeper for mission execution, dictating whether a system proceeds to the next design iteration or achieves flight-readiness. You are the critical link that transforms complex data into clear directives for flight.
Your daily work will involve designing intake workflows for flight telemetry to isolate critical variables and establish baseline performance metrics. You will develop and maintain propagation models for the RS1 and GS0 launch systems, meticulously integrating variables related to atmospheric conditions and propulsion performance. A core function is reviewing Monte Carlo simulation outputs to identify parameter sensitivities that could impact mission success criteria and safety margins.
You will produce analysis packages that provide definitive guidance to Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) teams, defining acceptable adjustment ranges for trajectory corrections. Collaboration with Test Operations is essential to synchronize test schedules with vehicle readiness, range availability, and strict safety constraints. You will generate aerodynamic models capable of predicting system behavior across a wide spectrum of environmental conditions and potential failure modes.
A vital component of the role is assessing range safety integration by mapping predicted flight paths against exclusion zone boundaries to ensure absolute compliance. Finally, you will reconstruct post-flight events to refine future mission designs and update the foundational simulation assumptions that govern Long Wall's technology.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must hold U.S. citizenship. This requirement is non-negotiable due to the controlled technology inherent in missile defense development.
You must bring a minimum of three years of professional experience in trajectory or flight analysis roles within the aerospace sector. Demonstrated proficiency in Python or MATLAB is mandatory for building simulation models and processing complex datasets. A deep understanding of performance assessments for propulsion systems, aerodynamic interactions, and atmospheric dynamics is required.
You must possess a thorough understanding of range safety procedures and how these protocols integrate with pre-flight planning and post-flight analysis activities.
Compensation and Location
This is a full-time position based in Long Beach, California. The compensation package is competitive, with a targeted range of $135,000 to $175,000 USD, commensurate with experience.
