About the role
LaunchDarkly is seeking a Full Stack Engineer to join the Guardian Monitoring team and play a pivotal role in the development of the core systems that ensure safe and continuous software delivery for our customers. In this position, you will be responsible for architecting and building both the backend analysis engines and the frontend user interfaces that provide critical visibility and control over software releases. This role represents a unique opportunity to directly influence and shape the future of automated deployments and feature management on a global scale. You will operate at the intersection of frontend user experience and backend data processing, ensuring that the tools we build are not only powerful but also intuitive and reliable for our users. The work you do will have a direct impact on how engineering teams manage risk and validate the success of their deployments in production environments.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Create and deploy full-stack features for the Guardian monitoring system, covering user interfaces, APIs, backend services, and data processing.
- Take ownership of features from initial concept through to production deployment and ongoing improvements, ensuring alignment with product goals.
- Work with product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver impactful solutions that address real user problems.
- Contribute to architectural discussions and technical design reviews, making informed decisions that balance scalability, performance, and maintainability.
- Write high-quality, maintainable code and champion best practices for code quality, testing, and system reliability across the team.
- Support and mentor fellow team members, fostering a positive, collaborative, and learning-oriented engineering culture.
- Participate in on-call duties to ensure the stability, performance, and rapid resolution of issues affecting live features.
- Analyze complex user requirements and translate them into technical specifications that guide the implementation of monitoring capabilities.
- Optimize application performance and reliability, identifying bottlenecks and implementing solutions to improve the user experience.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to define, build, and iterate on the monitoring tools that keep our platform robust.
Requirements
- Possess a minimum of 5 years of professional software development experience, demonstrating a proven track record in both frontend and backend development roles.
- Demonstrate proficiency in full-stack development, with hands-on experience using TypeScript and React for building user interfaces and Go or a similar language for backend services.
- Show a strong understanding of user needs and the ability to translate complex business requirements into practical, technical solutions.
- Exhibit excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a proven ability to work effectively and respectfully with engineers, product managers, and designers across different teams.
- Have a history of writing clean, efficient, and well-documented code that adheres to high standards of quality and reliability.
- Be comfortable making technical decisions and participating actively in architectural discussions that impact the long-term health of the codebase.
- Bring a mindset of ownership and accountability, taking responsibility for the complete lifecycle of features you build from conception through maintenance.
- Be prepared to engage in on-call responsibilities, ensuring the stability and performance of monitoring features in production at all times.
Nice to have
- Prior experience building or extensively using monitoring, alerting, or observability tools in a production environment.
- Familiarity with feature flagging strategies, release automation workflows, or other developer productivity tools that enhance deployment safety.

Zone 2 (Irvine, LA, Monterey, Santa Barbara, Santa Rosa, Austin, Portland, Philadelphia, Chicago): $154,100 - $211,860
Zone 3 (All other US locations): $145,500 - $200,090
Compensation includes salary, Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), health, vision, dental insurance, and mental health benefits.
