About the role
LaunchDarkly is looking for a senior leader to take charge of the Revenue Accounting and Over-the-Counter Operations functions. This individual will set the strategic direction for how the company recognizes, records, and reports revenue from all customer agreements and financial arrangements. The role involves managing a growing team of accounting specialists who handle the day-to-day processing of revenue transactions and OTC instrument activity. The Sr. Director will partner with cross-functional groups including Finance, Legal, Sales Operations, and Internal Audit to ensure that all accounting practices meet regulatory and contractual obligations. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity of financial data and supporting the company's growth trajectory.

What you'll do
Lead the Revenue Accounting team in executing monthly and quarterly close activities with precision and timeliness.
Oversee OTC operations encompassing trade execution confirmation, settlement processing, and reconciliation of all over-the-counter instruments.
Establish and maintain revenue recognition policies aligned with ASC 606 and other applicable accounting guidance.
Manage the accounting treatment for complex multi-element arrangements, bundled services, and variable consideration within customer contracts.
Partner with the Sales Operations team to evaluate contract structures and confirm proper revenue classification and timing.
Direct the preparation and review of journal entries, accruals, and adjustments across all revenue and OTC accounts.
Supervise a team of accounting professionals, offering coaching, performance evaluations, and ongoing professional development guidance.
Collaborate with Finance leadership to project revenue trends, analyze variances, and support the annual budgeting cycle.
Maintain strong internal controls and coordinate with external auditors during review periods for revenue and OTC items.
Champion process improvement and automation projects designed to streamline revenue accounting and OTC operational workflows.
Interface with external auditors throughout annual and quarterly engagements to respond to accounting inquiries and requests.
Track regulatory developments in revenue recognition and OTC accounting standards, proposing policy updates to leadership as needed.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required; CPA or CMA certification is strongly preferred by the company.
A minimum of ten years of progressive experience in revenue accounting, with at least three years leading a team.
Thorough knowledge of ASC 606 revenue recognition standards and their practical application within technology and SaaS businesses.
Demonstrated experience managing OTC operations including trade processing, settlement procedures, and reconciliation of financial instruments.
Solid understanding of US GAAP principles and the ability to interpret complex accounting standards for business transactions.
Proven leadership ability with a track record of recruiting, mentoring, and scaling high-performing accounting teams effectively.
Hands-on experience with ERP platforms such as NetSuite, SAP, or Oracle in a revenue accounting context.
Exceptional analytical thinking and attention to detail when working with large volumes of financial data and reports.
Nice to have
A Master's degree in Accounting or an MBA with a concentration in finance or accounting is a plus.
Prior experience at a publicly traded company navigating SOX compliance requirements and external audit processes regularly.
Familiarity with specialized revenue management platforms such as RevPro, Apttus, or SAP Revenue Recognition modules and tools.
Background in digital asset or cryptocurrency accounting, including OTC trading, valuation, and reconciliation of blockchain-based instruments.
Skills & tools
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, INDEX MATCH, and complex financial modeling techniques.
Working experience with major ERP platforms such as NetSuite, SAP, or Oracle for revenue and OTC accounting.
Familiarity with financial reporting dashboards and data visualization tools used to present results to management stakeholders.
Knowledge of contract lifecycle management and revenue recognition software systems commonly deployed in SaaS and technology firms.
Strong command of US GAAP, ASC 606, and OTC accounting standards along with related regulatory frameworks.
Ability to write SQL queries or use Python for data extraction, analysis, and automated reporting tasks.
Practical notes
This is a fully remote position based in the United States with no requirement for office attendance.
The role reports to the VP of Finance or the Chief Accounting Officer within the LaunchDarkly organization.
The successful candidate should be comfortable coordinating across multiple time zones to work with global finance colleagues.
The hiring process typically includes several interview rounds with Finance leadership and a practical case study exercise.
