What you'll do

• Execute civil engineering tasks, including excavation, drainage installation, and roadworks, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and quality standards.
• Operate heavy machinery and equipment, such as diggers and dumpers, while adhering to safety protocols and operational guidelines.
• Collaborate closely with project managers and other team members to ensure timely completion of tasks and adherence to project timelines.
• Conduct site inspections to assess work progress and quality, reporting any issues or delays to supervisors promptly.
• Assist in the preparation of site reports and documentation, maintaining accurate records of work completed and materials used.
• Participate in safety briefings and training sessions, promoting a culture of safety within the team and ensuring all team members are aware of best practices.
• Support the installation and maintenance of utilities, including water, gas, and electricity, ensuring minimal disruption to the surrounding area.
• Engage in problem-solving and troubleshooting on-site challenges, working proactively to find solutions that keep projects on track.
• Mentor and train junior operatives, sharing your expertise and knowledge to help develop their skills and capabilities.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring that all tools and equipment are stored properly and that the site is left in good condition.
• Assist in the procurement of materials and supplies, liaising with suppliers and ensuring that all resources are available when needed.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and practices within the team, identifying areas for efficiency gains and enhanced performance.

Requirements

• Proven experience in civil engineering or a related field, with a minimum of 3 years in a similar role.
• Valid CPCS or NPORS certification for operating heavy machinery.
• Strong understanding of health and safety regulations within the construction industry.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and plans.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• A valid driving license is essential for this role.
• Willingness to undertake further training and development as required.

Nice to have

• Experience with specific civil engineering software or tools.
• First Aid certification or other relevant safety training.
• Previous experience in mentoring or training junior staff.
• Knowledge of environmental regulations and sustainable practices in civil engineering.
