As a Civils Skilled Operative at Lanes Group, you will play a vital role in our infrastructure projects, contributing to the construction, maintenance, and repair of civil engineering works. Key facts
What you'll do
- Execute civil engineering tasks, including excavation, drainage installation, and roadworks, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and quality standards.
- Operate heavy machinery and equipment, such as diggers and dumpers, while adhering to safety protocols and operational guidelines.
- Collaborate closely with project managers and other team members to ensure timely completion of tasks and adherence to project timelines.
- Conduct site inspections to assess work progress and quality, reporting any issues or delays to supervisors promptly.
- Assist in the preparation of site reports and documentation, maintaining accurate records of work completed and materials used.
- Participate in safety briefings and training sessions, promoting a culture of safety within the team and ensuring all team members are aware of best practices.
- Support the installation and maintenance of utilities, including water, gas, and electricity, ensuring minimal disruption to the surrounding area.
- Engage in problem-solving and troubleshooting on-site challenges, working proactively to find solutions that keep projects on track.
- Mentor and train junior operatives, sharing your expertise and knowledge to help develop their skills and capabilities.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring that all tools and equipment are stored properly and that the site is left in good condition.
- Assist in the procurement of materials and supplies, liaising with suppliers and ensuring that all resources are available when needed.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and practices within the team, identifying areas for efficiency gains and enhanced performance.
Requirements
- Proven experience in civil engineering or a related field, with a minimum of 3 years in a similar role.
- Valid CPCS or NPORS certification for operating heavy machinery.
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations within the construction industry.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and plans.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- A valid driving license is essential for this role.
- Willingness to undertake further training and development as required.
Nice to have
- Experience with specific civil engineering software or tools.
- First Aid certification or other relevant safety training.
- Previous experience in mentoring or training junior staff.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and sustainable practices in civil engineering.
