Staff Product Researcher
About KOHO
KOHO exists to improve the financial lives of every Canadian. The organization operates without hidden fees or predatory interest rates, focusing solely on products that enable users to spend intelligently, accumulate savings, and build lasting wealth. KOHO is a performance-driven entity where outcomes are paramount, and all efforts connect directly to the central mission of empowering a generation financially. The company values autonomy and trust, fostering a remote-first environment that prioritizes work-life integration through flexible hours and asynchronous collaboration. KOHO is currently undergoing a transformation, becoming leaner, smarter, and more AI-integrated, placing emphasis on impact over bureaucracy.
About the Role
KOHO is developing products designed to help Canadians achieve meaningful financial advancement. The Staff Product Researcher will assume a leadership position on the Individual Contributor track, deepening the organization's comprehension of user needs, behaviors, motivations, and obstacles throughout the complete financial journey. This position requires strategic thinking and hands-on execution, enabling the movement between discovery work and the establishment of scalable practices. The role involves introducing human-centric perspectives into product development, with a principal focus on Generative Research, while simultaneously constructing the frameworks for Evaluative research at scale. The ideal candidate will be equally enthusiastic about influencing high-level product strategy and establishing the research foundations that allow teams to advance with increased speed and confidence.
What You'll Do
You will lead high-impact research initiatives across numerous product areas, assisting teams in identifying the correct problems to solve and clarifying complex opportunity spaces. You will support product strategy and roadmap decisions by uncovering user needs, behavioral patterns, unmet opportunities, and points of friction across the entire customer experience. You will formulate strong research questions, determine the most suitable methods for each challenge, and execute studies that meet a high standard for quality, speed, and utility. Your work will involve utilizing a spectrum of methods, including in-depth interviews, usability studies, concept testing, surveys, diary studies, journey mapping, and foundational research. You will synthesize findings into clear narratives, actionable insights, frameworks, and recommendations that guide product teams and leadership. You will help teams and leaders determine where qualitative insight, quantitative data, and market understanding should converge to shape product direction. Close collaboration with designers, product managers, engineers, data partners, product marketers, and leadership will ensure research is embedded within decision-making processes rather than serving as a downstream verification. You will establish the foundational elements of a scalable research practice at KOHO, encompassing improved rituals, templates, repositories, recruitment strategies, and methodologies. You will enhance research operations and participant recruitment, aiding KOHO in developing more reliable and repeatable methods for learning from users over time. You will explore the responsible application of AI-powered tools to expedite research workflows such as synthesis, pattern detection, documentation, and knowledge sharing, without sacrificing rigor or judgment. You will mentor designers, product managers, and other cross-functional partners regarding research thinking, evidence quality, and user-centric decision-making. You will elevate the quality of discovery across the organization by coaching teams to ask superior questions, avoid confirmation bias, and link evidence back to business and user outcomes.
Requirements
You possess significant experience in product research for consumer-facing digital products, preferably within complex and high-ambiguity environments. You have functioned at a staff or senior-leadership individual contributor level, influencing product strategy across multiple teams or domains. You excel at framing messy problems and selecting methods based on the decision, timeline, and constraints. You are highly proficient in qualitative research while comfortably integrating quantitative inputs when appropriate. You can convert raw signals into strategic insight and subsequently translate that insight into practical action.
Compensation and Location
This position is based in Canada. The annual compensation range is $130,000 to $170,000 USD. The engagement is full-time.
Work Environment
KOHO maintains a remote-first setup that relies on asynchronous collaboration and flexible hours. The role may involve travel, though visa sponsorship is not mentioned. Workdays correspond with standard Canadian hours, though specific hours are not defined.
