What you can expect from this position
This is a field-driven role focused on accountability and precision. You will set inspection schedules that keep critical path activities on track despite loud noise, extreme weather, confined spaces, and overhead work. Using computer software, you will track and enter detailed welding and inspection data, ensuring nothing is left to chance. You will coordinate pressure testing activities and verify that every step aligns with stringent safety and quality protocols.
Your work will compile complete project documentation packages, enabling teams to confirm compliance and maintain momentum. You will test welders and inspect joints against multiple industry codes to prevent failures before they occur. Following project QA plans and Inspection and Test Plans will be routine, ensuring results remain reliable, traceable, and auditable. You will support the Site Quality Manager with varied assignments while consistently upholding Mullins core values and safety policies.
Compensation and benefits
This position offers $26.63 hourly pay. After qualifying service, you will become eligible for a 401K retirement plan. The benefits package includes medical, dental, vision, life, and disability coverage, along with paid holidays and paid vacation time.
Key qualifications you must bring
You must understand construction quality management systems and how they protect workers, clients, and long-term project success. At least four years of proven experience as a Quality Inspector or Quality Technician is required. You must hold current AWS CWI, ASNT VT II, and API 510 or 570 certifications.
Deep knowledge of NDT methods, including UT, MT, PT, and RT, is essential for every assignment. You must be fluent in ASTM standards and material specifications to prevent costly errors. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word, along with construction project management software such as Procore, is required.
Practical readiness for the field
You must be comfortable climbing ladders and working on scaffolds or in trenches to access weld joints and inspection points. The role requires extended periods of standing, lifting up to 50 pounds, and walking across varied terrain. Effective communication with coworkers and leadership is essential, as you will advise on quality best practices and interpret requirements on the spot.

About the company
Kelso Industries builds scientific research vessels for government marine operations. The company name honors the late Dr John Kelso, a scientist with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. This background is reflected in the design of vessels built to support fisheries research and water quality work. The lead vessel is a "Near Shore Fisheries Research Vessel" used for trawls, box core sampling, bottom sampling, and water quality sampling. It was commissioned in 2009 and built by ABCO Industries Lunenburg Shipyard. The vessel was ordered by the Canadian Coast Guard to replace the retiring CCGS Shark and operates from CGS Base Burlington in the Central and Arctic Region. The ship has a maximum speed near 16 knots and a cruising speed near 14 knots. Fuel capacity is about 2,848 litres, with additional water storage of 500 litres.
