What you'll do
Your daily responsibilities will center on ensuring the precision and integrity of piping systems. This involves carefully routing and verifying technical documents before any cutting takes place. You will be responsible for shaping and preparing pipes, all while maintaining a vigilant awareness of workflow to prevent obstructions. A core part of your contribution will involve assembling combinations of carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy components into cohesive units. You will also handle the installation of pipe supports, hangers, and brackets to guarantee stable and secure systems. Testing for leaks and performing final checks to confirm adherence to all project requirements is essential. To maximize shop efficiency, you will coordinate seamlessly with welders to meet production goals. You will also organize your tasks and maintain your tools, actively participating in continuous improvement initiatives. Supporting other departments as needed, you will handle a variety of duties to ensure smooth operational flow.
Requirements
To qualify for this position, you must bring a minimum of three years of proven pipe fitting experience to the role. A fundamental requirement is the ability to accurately read and interpret complex isometric drawings and detailed project specifications. Demonstrated skill in fabricating carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy piping is mandatory. A strong grasp of pipe system design, layout methodologies, and installation best practices is expected. also, you must possess hands-on experience with welding procedures, specifically GTAW, SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW processes. Physical readiness is critical, as you must be capable of lifting and working consistently in demanding shop conditions.
Nice to have
Candidates with prior experience in a dedicated fabrication shop environment will find a strong alignment with this role. Familiarity with operating forklifts or other material handling equipment is also considered a valuable asset.

Kelso Industries builds scientific research vessels for government marine operations. The company name honors the late Dr John Kelso, a scientist with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. This background is reflected in the design of vessels built to support fisheries research and water quality work. The lead vessel is a "Near Shore Fisheries Research Vessel" used for trawls, box core sampling, bottom sampling, and water quality sampling.
