Kelso Industries is a national leader in mission critical construction, delivering HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, refrigeration, and electrical solutions through a network of more than 40 companies and over 4,000 employees. ICON Electric, a prominent electrical contractor within this network, is currently seeking an experienced Assistant Superintendent to join its Phoenix team. This role focuses on commercial, industrial, and mission critical projects, particularly within the expanding data center portfolio. The position offers the chance to lead field operations, mentor crews, and contribute to projects that power advanced technology infrastructure across the Southwest.
Position Summary
The Assistant Superintendent reports to the Project Superintendent and is responsible for the daily execution of electrical construction activities. This role supports planning, coordination, and oversight of field operations from mobilization through project closeout. The Assistant Superintendent acts as a key resource for electricians, apprentices, subcontractors, and vendors. Success in this position requires leading by example, maintaining strong communication, and balancing proactive planning with disciplined execution to meet strict safety, quality, and schedule expectations.

Primary Responsibilities
This role involves a broad range of field leadership and coordination duties essential to project delivery. Responsibilities include reviewing project requirements and intake details to confirm scope before work begins. You will develop and maintain detailed electrical schedules, coordinating labor, materials, subcontractors, and vendors to meet productivity and timeline goals. A critical function is analyzing construction documents, plans, and BIM models to verify that all installations comply with codes, specifications, and client needs.
You will oversee the safe and efficient shipping of completed electrical work, ensuring on-time delivery through meticulous coordination. Collaboration with project leaders is necessary to align expectations, manage budgets, and resolve cross-team issues. The Assistant Superintendent will also support design-build activities to improve constructability and field efficiency. This includes guiding crews on strict adherence to safety protocols and quality standards during complex installations. Tracking project progress, monitoring manpower and production, and adjusting plans to meet demanding deadlines and budgets are ongoing duties.
Requirements
Candidates must bring proven experience directing electrical field activities on commercial and mission critical projects. A strong ability to read and accurately interpret drawings, specifications, and BIM models is required. You must demonstrate skill in coordinating multiple trades, vendors, and subcontractors under tight deadlines. Clear and effective communication with crews, leadership, and clients is essential while managing several concurrent projects. The ability to analyze problems and implement efficient solutions to keep projects safe, efficient, and on schedule is mandatory.
Nice to Have
Experience working within data center or high-tech electrical environments is valued. Familiarity with the tools and workflows used by ICON Electric is considered an advantage.

About the company
Kelso Industries builds scientific research vessels for government marine operations. The company name honors the late Dr John Kelso, a scientist with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. This background is reflected in the design of vessels built to support fisheries research and water quality work. The lead vessel is a "Near Shore Fisheries Research Vessel" used for trawls, box core sampling, bottom sampling, and water quality sampling. It was commissioned in 2009 and built by ABCO Industries Lunenburg Shipyard. The vessel was ordered by the Canadian Coast Guard to replace the retiring CCGS Shark and operates from CGS Base Burlington in the Central and Arctic Region. The ship has a maximum speed near 16 knots and a cruising speed near 14 knots. Fuel capacity is about 2,848 litres, with additional water storage of 500 litres. Accommodation includes seating for ten passengers and a crew of three. This configuration supports day trips and focused research campaigns in coastal and nearshore waters.
