Developer Experience Engineer
Job description
Developer Experience Engineer at Justplay Gmbh.
About the role
The DevEx Engineer role at JustPlay is centered on owning the design, operation, and continuous improvement of the developer infrastructure that powers our engineering organization. You will act as a platform enabler, removing workflow roadblocks and accelerating the ability of software teams to deliver value. Your work will ensure that our multi-tenant Kubernetes environment remains robust, secure, and intuitive, while providing deep visibility into complex distributed systems. Ultimately, you will create a stable and intuitive platform that allows engineering teams to focus on product outcomes rather than platform challenges. You will partner closely with cross-functional teams to gather feedback, define best practices, and champion automation that reduces manual toil while balancing security compliance with developer velocity and autonomy.
Key facts
What you'll do
You will architect and manage multi-tenant Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) clusters to support the scalability and reliability demands of our global user base. You will implement and operate Istio service mesh to enforce security policies, manage traffic routing, and provide deep observability into service interactions. You will define and maintain Google Cloud Platform infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code methodologies to ensure consistency, repeatability, and scalability across environments. You will lead the evolution of our GitOps workflows, optimizing the ArgoCD ecosystem to achieve highly automated and reliable deployments. You will standardize microservice delivery through the creation and maintenance of Helm and Kustomize templates and internal scaffolding tools. You will build and enhance our self-service developer platform, potentially leveraging Backstage, to enable rapid provisioning of environments, databases, and access controls. You will curate and distribute observability tooling, including dashboards, logging aggregation, and distributed tracing, to enable developers to autonomously troubleshoot issues. You will partner with cross-functional engineering teams to gather feedback and continuously refine platform adoption metrics and the developer experience. You will establish guardrails that align with security and compliance requirements while empowering developer autonomy. You will champion automation initiatives to reduce manual toil and improve the reliability of our internal toolchain. You will evaluate emerging technologies and integrate proven innovations into our platform to maintain a competitive edge. You will document all platform components and procedures to ensure knowledge sharing and operational clarity. You will monitor platform health and performance metrics to proactively identify bottlenecks and plan for capacity growth. You will act as a technical liaison between infrastructure teams and application developers to ensure alignment on goals and workflows.
Requirements
You possess a proven track record of designing, deploying, and maintaining Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) clusters in production multi-tenant environments. You have deep expertise in service mesh technologies, with a specific focus on Istio for managing traffic routing, resilience, and observability. You demonstrate proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code tools and practices specifically on Google Cloud Platform, such as Terraform or Pulumi. You have hands-on experience building and managing GitOps pipelines using ArgoCD or similar continuous delivery tools. You are skilled at creating and maintaining reusable deployment templates using Helm, Kustomize, or similar configuration frameworks. You communicate fluently in English, both written and spoken, to ensure clear collaboration with international team members. You have a strong understanding of container orchestration principles and the underlying Kubernetes architecture. You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where requirements evolve quickly and ambiguity is common.
Nice to have
Experience with building internal developer platforms or self-service portals, such as Backstage. Knowledge of reward or gaming domain architectures is a plus but not required.
Practical notes
This is a full-time position based in Berlin with a hybrid work model. Relocation support and visa sponsorship are available for candidates who require them. Please note that benefits may vary depending on location and contract type.
