Senior Design Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Staff Design Engineer to lead our design system strategy and define how design and engineering collaborate at scale. You will set the technical direction for UI quality and integrate AI workflows into our product development process. In this role, you will own the end-to-end design system lifecycle from strategy to implementation, ensuring consistency and efficiency. You will act as the primary thought leader for design and engineering alignment across the organization. Your work will directly influence how products are built and how teams collaborate. You will champion the adoption of new technologies and methodologies to improve design quality. You will be responsible for creating a sustainable and scalable approach to design and engineering collaboration.

What you'll do

• Architect the roadmap, governance, and contribution strategy for our design system to ensure it scales with our product portfolio.
• Formulate the strategy for AI enablement within design-to-engineering workflows, covering the entire spectrum from initial prototyping to final production deployment.
• Establish and enforce rigorous technical standards for UI quality, performance, and accessibility across our entire platform.
• Conduct deep audits of the product to identify systemic quality issues and develop actionable plans to resolve them at scale.
• Build and maintain the infrastructure and tooling that empowers designers to ship production-ready code effectively and efficiently.
• Partner with leadership in design and engineering to refine cross-functional boundaries and define long-term operating models for collaboration.
• Lead the evaluation and integration of emerging AI tools to enhance the capabilities of design and engineering teams.
• Define best practices and documentation to ensure the design system is adopted and used consistently across all teams.
• Mentor other engineers and designers on the effective use of the design system and related tools.
• Drive the creation of reusable components and patterns that accelerate product development and ensure a consistent user experience.

Requirements

• Bring 10+ years of professional experience that spans both design and front-end engineering disciplines.
• Demonstrate a proven track record of building and scaling design systems, including managing adoption, governance, and long-term maintenance.
• Articulate a clear, defensible philosophy on design systems and drive consensus among stakeholders with diverse perspectives.
• Write production-grade code with proficiency in TypeScript, React, and CSS, contributing directly to our codebase.
• Show experience defining technical strategies for design tooling, developer experience, and the software development lifecycle.
• Apply practical experience integrating AI tools into team-level design and engineering workflows to improve efficiency and output.
• Communicate complex ideas effectively to influence product and engineering leadership without relying on formal authority.
• Use hands-on fluency with AI-powered coding tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or v0.dev to prototype and build solutions.
• Exhibit strong problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate ambiguity in a fast-paced, growing environment.
• Take ownership of your work and demonstrate accountability for the success of the design system and its adoption.

Nice to have

• Apply experience working in complex B2B or enterprise SaaS environments, particularly within data-heavy domains.
• Demonstrate a background in scaling design systems across multiple product lines and diverse engineering teams.
• Provide a proven track record of implementing AI-driven design-to-engineering workflows at the organizational level.
• Possess industry knowledge in Financial Services, Investment Management, Real Estate, or Fintech sectors.
• Show advanced knowledge of Figma systems, including design tokens, variables, and sophisticated component libraries.
