About the role
This role owns the design and delivery of core platform capabilities that power Jump's AI assistant for financial advisors. You will architect and implement services that directly handle advisor and client interactions in production. You will collaborate closely with product and compliance to ensure features meet enterprise-grade security and regulatory standards. You will translate complex product requirements into robust, scalable backend solutions using Elixir and related technologies. You will mentor junior engineers through code reviews and thoughtful feedback to lift the entire team. You will investigate and resolve intricate production issues while maintaining high system reliability and performance. You will partner with cross-functional teams to align technical execution with business objectives and customer needs. You will continuously explore new tools and techniques to improve development velocity and product quality.

What you'll do
- Architect new backend services that integrate AI features into advisor workflows on Google Cloud.
- Build and maintain resilient APIs using Elixir and Liveview to support financial advisor user interfaces.
- Optimize database interactions with Postgres to ensure queries perform well at scale.
- Implement infrastructure as code using Terraform to provision and manage cloud resources on Google Cloud.
- Configure and operate containerized applications on k8s to support reliable deployments.
- Instrument systems to capture detailed observability data for faster incident investigation.
- Review pull requests on Github to uphold code quality and share knowledge across the engineering team.
- Participate in on-call rotations to respond to production incidents and minimize customer impact.
- Partner with compliance and security teams to validate that features adhere to financial industry rules.
- Mentor engineers by providing clear guidance during design discussions and constructive code reviews.
- Experiment with new tools and workflows to reduce manual effort and improve developer experience.
- Support the deployment pipeline to enable frequent, low-risk releases for the Jump platform.
- Collaborate with product managers to clarify requirements and define technical acceptance criteria.
- Track technical debt and propose incremental improvements to keep the codebase sustainable.
Requirements
You must have at least 6 years of professional software engineering experience in any domain. You should be comfortable learning new technologies quickly and applying them to real production problems. Clear and respectful communication is essential since you will work with distributed teams and remote stakeholders. You must be able to adjust when priorities shift and still deliver high-quality results under changing conditions. We expect you to approach challenges with curiosity and good judgment rather than relying solely on prior experience. Setbacks should be seen as opportunities to collaborate, solve problems, and move forward as a team. You must be located outside the United States due to hour overlap requirements. You need a reliable internet connection and a dedicated workspace to support remote work. You should be comfortable working asynchronously while maintaining alignment with the team. You must be available for some overlap with headquarters hours, typically around three hours per day.
Nice to have
Experience with Elixir, Liveview, Postgres, Github, k8s, Terraform, and Google Cloud is preferred. Familiarity with financial services compliance and security standards is a plus. Backgrounds in serving clients in the advisor or fintech space are valued. Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to hiring decisions. A track record of shipping complex features on a regular cadence.
Practical notes
This is a full-time contractor role paying $70 per hour. You can work any hours as long as you maintain the required overlap with headquarters hours. The position is open to candidates located outside the United States. A reliable internet connection and a suitable workspace are required. The hiring process takes about one week and includes a screening call, a coding challenge, a chat with the CTO, and a trial week. Candidates must wait at least six months before re-applying for the same role.
