About the role
Within the Business Applications Development team, the Senior QA Engineer owns the quality strategy and execution for JetBrains commercial web products. You will be responsible for designing, improving, and executing comprehensive test scenarios that span functionality, usability, and regression coverage for new and existing features. Using an exploratory testing mindset on a daily basis, you will investigate, identify, and reproduce complex issues reported by users across different environments. You will actively participate in discussions about new projects and review feature requirements to ensure testability and quality from the start. Collaboration is central to the role, as you will communicate closely with developers, product managers, and other teams to define and implement optimal testing strategies and solutions. You will champion quality by validating business logic, security mechanisms, and data integrity through rigorous testing practices. The role requires a deep understanding of web application architecture so you can anticipate risks and design tests that safeguard the end-user experience. Ultimately, you will ensure completeness, continuity, and high quality across JetBrains' sales and licensing processes.

What you'll do
Design, improve, and execute test scenarios for new and existing functionalities to ensure comprehensive coverage.
Use an exploratory testing approach on a daily basis to discover issues that scripted tests might miss.
Investigate, identify, and reproduce complex issues reported by users, collaborating with developers to isolate root causes.
Participate in discussions about new projects and review feature requirements to assess testability and quality risks.
Communicate closely with your teammates and other teams to align on solutions, test expectations, and release criteria.
Analyze system architecture to understand how different components interact and to derive effective test conditions.
Write and maintain automated tests where appropriate to increase test coverage and reduce repetitive manual effort.
Perform security-focused testing to validate web application security mechanisms and data protection measures.
Verify database interactions by writing and executing complex SQL queries to validate data integrity and performance.
Utilize browser developer tools, Postman, and diagnostic utilities to inspect network traffic, headers, and payloads during testing.
Work comfortably across different processes, tools, and environments, adapting testing strategies as needed.
Challenge assumptions by defending your testing perspective while remaining open to alternative viewpoints from the team.
Base all testing decisions on factual evidence, logs, and reproducible results rather than intuition or guesswork.
Support the team in building and maintaining automated testing infrastructure and processes to improve efficiency.
Contribute to a culture of quality by mentoring peers and sharing testing best practices within the organization.
Requirements
Have at least 3 years (preferred) of experience in web applications or SaaS testing in a white box context.
Possess good knowledge of browser tools such as DevTools, Postman, and various code sniffers for diagnostics.
Be able to read and write code in Java or Kotlin to understand implementation details and automate tests.
Be comfortable writing complex SQL queries to retrieve, validate, and manipulate test data from databases.
Strive to clearly understand the architecture of the applications under test to design risk-based testing strategies.
Understand web application security mechanisms such as authentication, authorization, and data transmission protections.
Be capable of working with different processes, methodologies, and environments in agile and traditional settings.
Be open to other points of view and capable of reasonably defending your own position during discussions.
Adhere to the principle that decisions should be based on facts, evidence, and reproducible observations.
Nice to have
Have a basic understanding of containerization principles such as images, containers, and orchestration concepts.
Be able to easily use *nix command-line tools like man, grep, find, sed, netstat, and awk for diagnostics and troubleshooting.
Have experience working with VSCode as a primary development environment.
Be familiar with IntelliJ IDEA and its relevant plugins for testing and debugging.
Have experience building automated testing infrastructure, frameworks, and related processes.

This is a full-time position with a strong focus on quality assurance for JetBrains business applications.
Remote work is available, with the option to work abroad for up to 30 days per year.
Candidates may be required to travel occasionally depending on project needs.

The compensation range reflects gross annual salary in EUR and is based on skills, experience, and location.
