Protocol Engineer (Injective Labs)
Job description
About the role
You will architect and deliver core protocol components that power Injective's decentralized finance modules from conception to production. You will own the design, implementation, and rigorous testing of chain features that directly impact performance, reliability, and user experience. Your work will focus on optimizing the Injective blockchain through deep analysis of processing logic, state management, and the order matching engine. You will collaborate with elite engineers to define specifications that balance innovation with stability. You will write open-source Golang clients that expose protocol functionality to external developers and applications. You will play a key role in research initiatives that push the boundaries of blockchain scalability and interoperability. Your contributions will be visible across the Cosmos-SDK ecosystem and beyond.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Architect and maintain the decentralized orderbook, ensuring it handles high throughput with strict correctness guarantees.
- Engineer the trade execution coordinator to synchronize state transitions across distributed nodes with minimal latency.
- Refine the order matcher to achieve optimal performance under volatile market conditions and complex trading scenarios.
- Develop and integrate components within a Layer-2 execution environment to expand scalability and reduce on-chain burden.
- Build and maintain robust Golang clients that enable secure and efficient interaction with protocol smart contracts.
- Drive research and development efforts to prototype novel blockchain features and consensus improvements.
- Partner with front-end, back-end, and QA teams to align blockchain logic with user-facing functionality and quality standards.
- Liaise with external partners and open-source communities to integrate contributions and elevate the ecosystem.
- Profile and optimize the kvstore layer to reduce bottlenecks and improve overall chain responsiveness.
- Implement processing logic enhancements that strengthen financial infrastructure and application reliability.
- Review and refactor existing modules to uphold best practices in API design and data structure usage.
- Document system behaviors and interfaces to facilitate knowledge sharing and long-term maintainability.
- Participate in on-call rotations to diagnose and resolve production issues in a timely manner.
- Mentor junior engineers by providing code reviews and technical guidance rooted in blockchain expertise.
Requirements
- Hold a minimum of 3 years' experience as a Blockchain Engineer in production environments.
- Possess prior experience working in trading systems or within an exchange infrastructure role.
- Demonstrate work on at least two production Golang codebases that are large in scale and performance-critical.
- Show strong knowledge of Go idioms, standard libraries, and concurrency patterns for parallel processing.
- Apply strong knowledge of blockchain architecture, DeFi protocols, and DEX trading mechanics.
- Understand consensus mechanisms and their implications for security and finality.
- Have hands-on experience with the CosmWasm contract platform and its execution model.
- Exhibit strong grasp of computer science fundamentals including advanced data structures and API design principles.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders during design discussions.
- Navigate complex constraints while maintaining a pragmatic approach to delivery deadlines.
- Adhere to strict security practices when handling cryptographic operations and sensitive data.
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment where context switching is common but quality is non-negotiable.
- Take ownership of ambiguous problems and drive solutions with limited precedent.
- Respect open-source collaboration norms and contribute back to community projects.
Nice to have
- Hands-on experience with Cosmos-SDK and Tendermint consensus to accelerate protocol development.
- Familiarity with cryptographic libraries including digital signature schemes and hash algorithms used across Ethereum and Cosmos.
- Background with key-value databases, especially those integrated with the Cosmos-SDK stack.
- Prior work with Ethereum and Solidity, with extra consideration for those with Layer-2 scaling experience.
- Understanding of financial instruments, market microstructure, and trading infrastructure concepts.
