What you'll do
- Develop and refine design specifications for fire safety products, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Collaborate with product managers and other engineers to translate customer requirements into functional design solutions.
- Utilize CAD software to create detailed engineering drawings and models that accurately represent product designs.
- Conduct simulations and analyses to validate design concepts and assess performance under various conditions.
- Participate in design reviews and provide constructive feedback to enhance product development processes.
- Work closely with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are feasible and can be produced efficiently.
- Assist in the preparation of technical documentation, including design reports, user manuals, and installation guides.
- Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies to incorporate innovative solutions into product designs.
- Troubleshoot design issues and provide timely solutions to ensure project timelines are met.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance on best practices in design engineering.
- Engage with customers to gather feedback on product performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Support the testing and validation of prototypes to ensure they meet design specifications and safety standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in design engineering, preferably within the fire safety or related industries.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar tools.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles and design methodologies.
- Experience with product development processes, from concept through to production.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with team members and stakeholders.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Nice to have
- Experience with fire safety systems and relevant industry standards (e.g., NFPA, UL).
- Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance and safety standards in the engineering field.
- Previous experience in a customer-facing role, providing technical support or product training.
- Certification in relevant engineering disciplines or project management (e.g., PMP, Six Sigma).
