About the role
Become a vital member of the Patient team, where you will focus on enhancing the Patient Health Data Platform that supports both patient and provider interactions. In this position, you will be responsible for developing backend solutions, contributing to system design, and elevating code quality through thorough reviews and knowledge sharing. You will have the opportunity to work autonomously on specific projects while also refining operational practices.

What you'll do
- Design and implement moderately complex, scalable, and maintainable backend solutions that align with product requirements.
- Develop comprehensive technical design documents that incorporate team feedback to facilitate implementation.
- Write modular, reusable, and testable code, ensuring compliance with squad testing standards, including unit, integration, end-to-end, and manual tests.
- Provide constructive feedback during code reviews, focusing on coding conventions, functionality, and test coverage.
- Tackle technical debt by contributing necessary fixes, prioritizing tasks effectively, and balancing them with new feature development.
- Engage in product discovery to evaluate feasibility, understand user needs, and validate concepts through prototypes and experiments.
- Collaborate with fellow engineers to ensure smooth integration and communication across various systems and services.
- Implement basic observability measures, including logging, monitoring, and alerting for developed systems, while addressing minor performance or reliability issues.
- Decompose medium-complexity projects into actionable tasks and drive them from planning to delivery, seeking assistance when required.
- Analyze performance metrics and user feedback to pinpoint and act on opportunities for improvement.
- Create and maintain technical documentation for your systems and processes to ensure clarity and continuity.
- Share knowledge with colleagues, propose workflow enhancements, and suggest ideas for ongoing improvement within your squad.
- Participate in the hiring process by conducting technical screenings or interviews and mentoring new hires or interns on essential technical skills.
Requirements
- A minimum of 2 years of experience as a software engineer, with a proven track record of delivering production code.
- Experience in contributing to backend distributed systems and services.
- Familiarity with microservice architectures is essential.
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience is required.
- Proven experience in building scalable web applications and services, ideally in a cloud environment.
- Hands-on experience in deploying and hosting front ends and microservices using Kubernetes and AWS.
- Familiarity with agile software development methodologies and delivery practices.
- Experience with CI/CD processes, including automated unit and integration testing.
- Proficiency with relational databases, with a preference for PostgreSQL.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a developing skill set for critically evaluating trade-offs in performance, cost, and complexity.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, fostering effective teamwork within a squad.
- Capability to take ownership of tasks, adapt to ambiguity, and maintain consistent progress with minimal supervision.
Nice to have
- Experience in healthcare technology, wearables, or connected device data is a plus.
- Proficiency in front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks (React, React Native, NextJS, GraphQL).
- Familiarity with Node.js, Redis, or Kotlin would be beneficial.
- Experience in web performance optimization is an added advantage.
