Senior Engineering Manager, Web Platform

About the role

The Senior Engineering Manager, Web Platform role at Headway is responsible for owning the strategy and execution of the web platform engineering organization, translating Headway's mission of fixing mental healthcare access into a clear, scalable technical roadmap. In this role, you will lead the development of the core tools that power provider software, ensuring the platform scales reliably for over 75,000 practices across all 50 states. You will partner deeply with Product and Design to define the future patient search and therapist practice management experience, while making the case for foundational platform investments using data and clear business outcomes. You will mentor engineers, foster technical excellence, and build trust through transparency and psychological safety, ensuring the web platform delivers on Headway's promise of making care accessible to everyone, regardless of insurance status. The role is based in New York City and is full-time.

What you'll do

• Define the multi-year roadmap for the web platform and prioritize initiatives that directly impact provider adoption and patient access.
• Lead the architecture of the provider practice management suite, focusing on scalability and performance across all 50 states.
• Own the developer experience and platform tooling to accelerate feature delivery for the engineering teams.
• Partner with Product Leadership to translate business objectives into clear engineering requirements and success metrics.
• Implement rigorous product analytics to measure the impact of platform changes on provider retention and patient outcomes.
• Drive the standardization of UI components and design systems to ensure consistency across therapist-facing applications.
• Build and maintain strong cross-functional relationships with Design, Product, and Operations to align on shared goals.
• Mentor senior and mid-level engineers, providing guidance on technical growth and career development.
• Establish best practices for release management, testing, and monitoring to reduce risk and improve stability.
• Represent Headway's engineering organization to executive stakeholders through clear communication of progress and challenges.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager leading frontend or web platform teams.
• 10+ years of experience as a Software Engineer with deep expertise in modern frontend and web technologies.
• Demonstrated success leading platform or infrastructure teams focused on developer productivity.
• Strong ability to communicate technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders and executive leadership.
• Track record of building alignment across multiple product teams and navigating competing priorities.
• Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation and metrics to drive organizational visibility.
• Proven ability to manage remote or hybrid engineering teams in a fast-growth environment.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive culture where engineers feel safe to learn from mistakes.
