Head of Product
Job description
About the role
The role is for an experienced, hands-on Head of Product who owns product and design end-to-end and is as comfortable in a customer call as in a pull request. You will lead a small, senior team of two excellent PMs and a design lead, partnering closely with a hands-on founding team and engineering to bring structure to chaos and a spine to the hard calls. You are expected to lean into AI as a multiplier for creativity, speed, and scale, exploring how it can elevate your craft across writing, designing, coding, and analyzing. The focus is on building an AI-native product and team where more is done with fewer people, and where signal is prioritized over slop in a culture of high trust, high agency, and high emotional intelligence. You will thrive here if you bias hard toward action and "prioritize finishing," shipping at pace without dropping quality while staying relentlessly close to customers and separating signal from noise.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Turn a dozen competing customer demands into a coherent set of bets, deciding what we do not do as clearly as what we do.
- Make "we ship what we commit, on time, at quality, at an increasing pace" true by building the operating muscle a fast-moving product org runs on.
- Build AI into the product and into how the team works, using it as a tool to do more with fewer people and maintain a sharp eye for signal over slop.
- Coach and lead two PMs and a design lead, raising the craft bar and growing the team behind you while treating design as a strategic partner rather than a service function.
- Own crisp decision rights with the founding team, who stay close to the customer, and keep a clear line to GTM on what is coming and when.
- Use structured thinking and written communication to make decisions obvious across time zones and ensure predictable, quality delivery.
- Read the codebase and wire up your own tooling so you are technical enough to be dangerous and credible when discussing tech-debt versus velocity.
- Partner with founders without deferring to them, challenging assumptions, making the recommendation, and committing fully once the call is made.
- Define a real system for where your customer signal comes from and how you separate signal from noise so you can defend your ground while believing in "strong opinions, weakly held."
- Lead a growth-stage product function in research, data, or dev-tools adjacent contexts, demonstrating comfort in customer calls and pull requests alike.
Requirements
- Bias hard to action and "prioritize finishing," closing open loops and shipping at pace without dropping quality.
- Are genuinely AI-native, using AI as part of how you think, build, and operate, and knowing where it creates real leverage versus where it adds noise or risk.
- Think in structured bets and make decisions, bringing a framework, writing things down, and being willing to be wrong and move rather than please every stakeholder.
- Are relentlessly close to customers, with a real system for sourcing signal and separating it from noise, and you can defend your ground while equally believing in "strong opinions, weakly held."
- Are technically enough to be dangerous, reading the codebase, wiring up your own tooling, shipping a small fix, and holding a credible line on tech-debt versus velocity.
- Communicate with unusual clarity, with writing that makes decisions obvious across time zones.
- Partner with founders without deferring to them, challenging assumptions, making the recommendation, and committing fully once the call is made.
- Have led product at a growth-stage software company, with research, data, or dev-tools adjacent experience being a bonus.
