About the role
Graphcore is on the lookout for an experienced Senior UEFI Firmware Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the development and maintenance of firmware tailored for hyperscale AI server platforms. Your expertise will be crucial in overseeing platform initialization, configuring hardware, and ensuring system reliability across extensive data center environments.

What you'll do
- Design, implement, and deploy UEFI firmware specifically for advanced hyperscale server hardware, ensuring optimal performance and functionality.
- Collaborate closely with Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs) throughout the entire product lifecycle, from the initial design stages to mass production, ensuring seamless integration and execution.
- Integrate firmware into Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, facilitating automated builds, conducting static analysis, and performing regression testing to maintain high-quality standards.
- Develop firmware responsible for initializing critical components such as CPUs, memory modules, PCIe interfaces, and system interconnects, ensuring robust system performance.
- Implement advanced security measures, including secure boot chains, establishing a root of trust, and managing signed firmware updates to protect against vulnerabilities.
- Innovate and enhance features aimed at boosting server reliability, availability, and serviceability, contributing to the overall efficiency of data center operations.
- Create and maintain interfaces for system management, telemetry data collection, and firmware update processes, ensuring smooth operational workflows.
- Work in conjunction with silicon, Baseboard Management Controller (BMC), security, and validation teams to ensure comprehensive hardware integration and functionality.
- Conduct thorough root cause analysis and debugging of firmware and hardware issues, both in laboratory environments and during production, to swiftly resolve any challenges that arise.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- A minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience in BIOS or UEFI firmware development specifically for server environments.
- Strong programming skills in C and C++, demonstrating a solid understanding of low-level programming concepts.
- Experience with firmware solutions in cloud or hyperscale data center settings, showcasing an understanding of the unique challenges and requirements of these environments.
- Familiarity with DDR memory training processes, PCIe subsystems, and cache coherency protocols, which are essential for high-performance computing.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, demonstrating excellent communication skills.
Nice to have
- Experience with TianoCore or similar UEFI development frameworks, providing a solid foundation for firmware development.
- Knowledge of advanced security protocols and practices within firmware development, enhancing the security posture of server platforms.
- Familiarity with hardware debugging tools and methodologies, enabling efficient troubleshooting and resolution of firmware-related issues.
- Previous experience in a startup or high-growth technology company, showcasing adaptability and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

- Proficient in UEFI firmware development and architecture design.
