About the role
Graphcore is seeking a Staff Digital Twin Engineer to architect and evolve simulation platforms for advanced AI compute systems. You will lead technical initiatives focused on 3D visualization, data integration, and workflow automation to support the lifecycle of data center operations and hardware design. In this role, you will own the end-to-end technical strategy for digital twin environments that accurately represent complex compute and facility infrastructure. You will be responsible for defining the architecture that connects physical systems with virtual representations to enable predictive analysis and operational insight. The position requires deep collaboration with hardware engineers, data scientists, and operations teams to translate real-world constraints into robust simulation models. You will drive innovation by implementing cutting-edge workflows that leverage advanced visualization and physics-based modeling techniques. What you'll do
- Lead the architecture and implementation of simulation logic and behavioral models for machine and system behavior, ensuring alignment with operational goals.
- Apply Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies to ensure traceability from requirements to production deployments and validated outcomes.
- Develop high-fidelity 3D scenes and environments using NVIDIA Omniverse, focusing on accuracy, performance, and usability for engineering workflows.
- Integrate physics engines like PhysX to model machine-environment interactions and system dynamics, capturing real-world behaviors in simulation.
- Build automated test pipelines and validation frameworks to ensure numerical stability, model accuracy, and consistent performance across scenarios.
- Manage scene composition and asset workflows using OpenUSD, optimizing for modularity, reusability, and efficient iteration.
- Connect disparate data sources, including telemetry, design systems, and asset inventories, into unified digital twin environments that provide coherent situational awareness.
- Provide technical mentorship and code reviews to team members without direct management duties, fostering growth and consistency across the simulation platform.
- Establish best practices for version control, documentation, and release processes to maintain high standards of quality and reproducibility in all deliverables.
Requirements
- Hold a degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, demonstrating a strong technical foundation.
- Bring 8+ years of professional experience in simulation, automation, or controls, with a proven impact in complex system environments.
- Show a proven track record in building or maintaining digital twin, 3D visualization, or engineering platform software that supports critical operations.
- Possess hands-on expertise with the NVIDIA Omniverse platform, including Kit, extensions, and connectors, to develop and deploy robust solutions.
- Demonstrate proficiency in OpenUSD concepts such as layering, composition, schemas, and scene graphs to manage intricate digital representations.
- Have direct experience with data center operations, infrastructure management, or complex facility systems to inform realistic simulation scenarios.
- Exhibit strong programming skills in C++ or Python for building production-grade tools that are scalable and maintainable.
- Display the ability to lead complex technical projects and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, aligning diverse stakeholders toward shared objectives.
Nice to have
- Background in high-performance computing, semiconductor, robotics, or manufacturing environments that involve strict operational and performance requirements.
- Experience modeling thermal, airflow, power, or mechanical constraints for rack and blade systems to capture the physical realities of data center infrastructure.
- Familiarity with synthetic data generation, sensor simulation, or operational monitoring to enhance the fidelity and responsiveness of digital twins.
- Knowledge of CI/CD, containerized deployments, and cloud or on-premises infrastructure to support scalable and resilient platform operations.
- Experience with Unreal Engine, Unity, Blender, ROS, CAD/CAE tools, or PLM systems to integrate diverse workflows and leverage existing assets.
- Understanding of AI, machine learning, and large-scale system architecture to ensure that digital twins reflect the complexities of modern compute systems.
