Component Engineer

About the role

In this position, you will play a crucial role in selecting components that guarantee the highest quality and reliability for our hardware products. Your responsibilities will encompass managing the entire lifecycle of components, starting from their initial specifications all the way through to mass production. This role is vital in ensuring that our products meet the rigorous standards expected in the industry.

What you'll do

• Identify and procure components that align with performance, yield, and reliability objectives for our hardware offerings.
• Oversee revisions of the bill of materials (BOM), ensuring all compliance documentation is accurate and up to date while managing risks within the supply chain.
• Create and implement alternative sourcing strategies to ensure uninterrupted production flow, minimizing potential disruptions.
• Collaborate with both internal teams and external partners, including contract manufacturers and suppliers, to streamline processes and enhance component quality.
• Assess and evaluate emerging component technologies that could be integrated into future product developments, keeping the company at the forefront of innovation.
• Conduct thorough analyses of component performance and reliability data to inform decision-making and improve product outcomes.
• Lead initiatives to optimize the component selection process, ensuring alignment with overall product development timelines and goals.
• Provide technical support and expertise to cross-functional teams, facilitating effective communication and understanding of component-related issues.

Requirements

• A comprehensive understanding of electronics, including the ability to analyze datasheets and make informed decisions regarding component trade-offs.
• Experience with bill of materials management and sourcing platforms, particularly Silicon Expert and Arena, to ensure efficient operations.
• Familiarity with surface mount technology (SMT) assembly and printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing processes, contributing to effective component integration.
• Capability to analyze the complex interactions between silicon, packaging, and PCB design to enhance product performance.
• Proven experience working alongside electronics supply chain partners and offshore contract manufacturers, ensuring smooth collaboration and quality assurance.
• Strong analytical skills, with proficiency in tools such as Power BI and Excel for data analysis and reporting purposes.

• Previous experience in a similar role within the technology or electronics industry, providing a solid foundation for understanding component engineering challenges.
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance standards relevant to electronics manufacturing, ensuring adherence to industry best practices.
• Knowledge of emerging trends in component technology and manufacturing processes, allowing for proactive adaptation in a fast-paced environment.

Skills & tools

• Proficient in using Arena for BOM management and tracking.
• Experienced with Silicon Expert for component sourcing and analysis.
• Strong command of Excel for data manipulation and reporting.
• Familiar with Power BI for visualizing data and generating insights.
