In this Scientist role, you will act as a strategic consultant on high-impact projects with diverse external pharma and biotech partners, driving innovation and collaboration across the discovery and development spectrum. You will communicate insights effectively to shape team direction and lead transformative initiatives from target discovery through to clinical application. Your work will navigate the entirety of the drug development pipeline, translating complex genomic data into actionable strategies. You will utilize advanced statistical techniques to unravel complex genomic data and transform raw findings into practical consulting insights, working collectively with both your highly skilled internal team and external collaborators. Success in this role demands a robust grasp of statistical human genetics applied inventively in a partner-facing environment.
What you'll do
You will lead large-scale genetic association analyses, including foundational approaches such as GWAS and burden tests, within Trusted Research Environments like UK Biobank and All of Us. You will serve as a strategic domain expert, navigating the entire drug development pipeline from target discovery and validation through to patient stratification. You will translate complex genomic data into actionable insights, applying advanced statistical human genetics in a partner-facing consulting capacity. You will drive innovative solutions by utilizing workflow tools such as Nextflow, version control with Git, and HPC or cloud compute environments. You will collaborate closely with external collaborators to prioritize therapeutic targets and optimize clinical insights, unveiling new treatment possibilities. You will communicate scientific findings effectively, shaping team direction and supporting the delivery of presentations to a variety of customers and stakeholders. You will champion reproducible analysis by maintaining clean, well-documented code in R or Python for large-scale genomic investigations. You will explore emerging methodologies including containerisation with Docker or Singularity, distributed computing frameworks, and machine learning applications within Genomics. You will contribute to an open-source scientific software ethos where applicable, enhancing collective capabilities and toolsets. You will act as a key point of engagement for a diverse portfolio of high-impact projects, ensuring scientific rigor and strategic alignment.
Requirements
Experience performing foundational genetic association analyses (e.g. GWAS, burden) on large-scale biobank data in Trusted Research Environments (TREs) such as UK Biobank and All of Us is essential. Strong proficiency in R and/or Python for large-scale genomic analysis is required, with a commitment to clean, reproducible, well-documented code. Experience with workflow tools such as Nextflow, version control via Git, and HPC or cloud compute environments is mandatory. Nice-to-have competencies include containerisation (Docker/Singularity), distributed computing frameworks, machine learning applied to Genomics, or contributions to open-source scientific software. You must be confident in engaging with a variety of stakeholders and capable of contributing to and supporting the delivery of presentations to customers. Ability to work within a hybrid environment based in London, aligning with the operational model of the Oxford or London office, is required. Commitment to adhering to data governance and security standards inherent in TRE-based analyses is essential. Willingness to contribute to a culture of innovation where scientific insight directly influences therapeutic strategy is expected.
