About the role
Galaxy is on the lookout for a Data Center Risk Associate who will play a crucial role in identifying and managing risks throughout the various stages of data center projects. This position requires a thorough understanding of the diverse risk factors that can impact data center operations, including areas such as procurement, construction, and financial management. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with multiple teams to ensure that projects are executed effectively and in compliance with all relevant standards.

What you'll do
- Manage and oversee the risk management processes associated with data center projects, ensuring that risks are tracked and mitigated from the initial site selection phase through to operational stages, while also maintaining updated risk documentation and advocating for best practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including development, construction, engineering, finance, and operations, to identify potential risks and develop strategies to address them during both the planning and execution phases of projects.
- Evaluate and manage risks that arise during pre-construction, procurement, and construction phases, with a focus on site selection, permitting, supply chain challenges, contractor performance, scheduling, and budget management.
- Provide support for risk management in operational settings, prioritizing uptime, security, infrastructure reliability, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Assist in managing insurance-related matters, claims, and compliance activities, ensuring that all operations adhere to regulatory standards such as ISO, SOC, and NIST, while also supporting audit processes throughout various project phases.
- Collaborate with the finance team to analyze financial and market risks, including budgeting and developing risk mitigation strategies such as hedging.
- Create comprehensive risk reports and dashboards for senior leadership, promoting the continuous improvement of risk management frameworks and long-term strategic planning.
- Engage in regular training and development opportunities to stay updated on industry best practices and emerging risk management trends.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- A minimum of three years of experience in risk management, project management, construction, infrastructure, or operations, ideally within data center or mission-critical environments.
- Familiarity with established risk management frameworks such as COSO, NIST, or ISO 31000.
- A foundational understanding of data center infrastructure, including aspects such as power, cooling, redundancy, and the overall development lifecycle.
- An entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to work autonomously and take initiative in achieving results.
- Comprehensive knowledge of financial, technological, and infrastructure-related risks.
- Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex operational risks in a clear and understandable manner for decision-makers.
Nice to have
- Experience with large-scale infrastructure or real estate development projects.
- Knowledge of construction-related risks, contract risks, and vendor management practices.
- Familiarity with compliance standards such as SOC 1/2, ISO 27001, or NIST.
- Relevant professional certifications like CRISC, CISSP, CRMP, CERP, or similar.
- Advanced analytical skills, including proficiency in Excel and experience with data visualization tools.
- Capability to translate technical, financial, and operational data into actionable risk insights.
- A proven history of establishing an enterprise risk management function, particularly in a regulated and rapidly growing environment.
Skills & tools
The ideal candidate will be proficient in risk management software and tools, possess strong Excel skills for data analysis, and be familiar with data visualization platforms. Knowledge of project management software is also advantageous.
