About the role
Focused is seeking a Senior Software Engineer who will own the full lifecycle of software delivery in client engagements. You will move quickly with your teams to design, build, and ship high-quality software that directly achieves client outcomes and meets their customers' needs. This role requires deep collaboration with clients who bring domain expertise, while you contribute architecture, implementation, and craftsmanship. You will shape engineering best practices, influence technical direction across client organizations, and mentor engineers to raise the standard of delivery. You will also experiment with emerging patterns, especially in the GenAI space, and translate learnings into robust, scalable solutions.

What you'll do
- Write extensive production code across the full stack while maintaining a high standard of readability, testability, and maintainability.
- Lead teams through end-to-end delivery across the stack, from backend services to modern web UIs, ensuring alignment with client goals and timelines.
- Pair program daily with teammates and clients to share knowledge, improve code quality, and grow together through collaborative problem solving.
- Practice Test-Driven Development and continuous refactoring to ensure code is reliable, maintainable, and understandable over the life of the product.
- Guide architecture decisions that support scalability, observability, and performance while balancing tradeoffs against delivery constraints and client needs.
- Collaborate closely with designers, product managers, and stakeholders to continuously deliver valuable software that advances measurable client outcomes.
- Coach developers on the team through pairing, mentoring, and modeling a healthy engineering culture that emphasizes learning, ownership, and quality.
- Influence technical direction beyond the immediate team by working across client organizations and Focused internal practices to share lessons and raise the collective bar.
- Stay curious by experimenting with new patterns in the GenAI space, sharing what works and what does not, and helping evolve how we build AI-powered software responsibly.
- Contribute to the definition and improvement of engineering standards, tools, and processes that enable predictable delivery and long-term product health.
- Communicate progress transparently to clients and stakeholders, providing clear reasoning behind technical decisions and tradeoffs.
- Adapt to shifting requirements and priorities while maintaining a disciplined approach to quality, testing, and documentation.
- Participate in on-call or incident response as needed to support production systems and ensure timely resolution of issues.
- Build strong working relationships with client team members to foster trust, alignment, and shared ownership of success.
Requirements
- You are a hands-on, full stack engineer with a strong track record of delivering software in collaborative, agile environments.
- You have worked with native iOS and Android development (Swift/Kotlin), and you have an interest in learning agentic AI tooling as it becomes more relevant to mobile development.
- You believe that code quality matters, and that TDD and pairing help build better systems and stronger teams.
- You have worked across multiple languages or frameworks and have deep expertise in Swift and Kotlin.
- You are excited about what is happening in the AI space but stay focused on delivering tangible value to clients and users.
- You are comfortable making decisions in the face of ambiguity and advocating for approaches that balance innovation with practical constraints.
- You communicate clearly and respectfully with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, adjusting your style for the audience.
- You take ownership of your work, follow through on commitments, and contribute positively to a culture of experimentation and continuous improvement.
