Growth Engineer
Job description
About the role
You are a technical operator who wants to own growth end-to-end from concept to measurable impact. You will work closely with product, design, and marketing, but your primary focus is on building and shipping experiments that accelerate acquisition, activation, and retention. Your daily work involves prototyping and launching tools, landing pages, and onboarding flows designed to move the needle quickly. You diagnose where technical users drop off and design scrappy solutions that keep them engaged without relying on manual human support. You will quantify every experiment by setting up instrumentation, tracking performance, and prioritizing work based on data and potential upside. You thrive in an environment where you can hack together workflows, automate repetitive tasks, and tweak architectures to ship fast. You communicate clearly and explain both the "what" and the "why" behind your work so that stakeholders understand the rationale and impact of your experiments.
Key facts
What you'll do
- Build & ship growth experiments by prototyping and launching tools, landing pages, onboarding flows, and conversion experiments that directly impact acquisition and retention.
- Diagnose user friction by analyzing behavioral data, conducting user research, and applying intuition to identify where technical users stall and designing interventions that sustain engagement.
- Optimize onboarding & activation by reworking first-touch experiences so users reach "aha" moments faster and require less manual guidance.
- Collaborate cross-functionally by partnering with marketing on campaigns, with product on end-to-end flows, and with engineering on integrations or growth-oriented features.
- Quantify impact by implementing instrumentation, defining metrics, and analyzing experiment performance to prioritize high-leverage work.
- Stay scrappy by selecting the fastest tool, framework, or hack to deliver results, whether that means writing code, automating workflows, or adjusting website architecture.
- Run iterative experiments that generate meaningful lift in weeks rather than months by testing hypotheses, measuring outcomes, and refining approaches.
- Own the full growth loop from hypothesis to implementation to analysis, ensuring that every experiment contributes to sustainable acquisition and improved retention.
- Translate ambiguous problems into concrete experiments by defining success criteria, setting up tracking, and iterating based on observed user behavior.
- Contribute to a culture of experimentation by sharing learnings, documenting patterns, and helping the team adopt more effective growth practices over time.
Requirements
You have strong technical chops and are comfortable coding, prototyping, and integrating tools, with a front-end or full-stack background being a significant advantage. You have a proven record of delivering growth experiments with measurable results that demonstrate your ability to move metrics. You possess deep empathy for technical users such as engineers and designers, and you can understand their workflows, constraints, and motivations intuitively. You have a quantitative mindset and a genuine love for data, funnel metrics, and experimentation frameworks that inform decision-making. You show entrepreneurial persistence with a bias toward action, enabling you to hustle, iterate, and solve problems quickly even when requirements are unclear. You are a clear communicator who can explain both the "what" and the "why" behind your work to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You are comfortable operating in environments with incomplete information and evolving constraints, updating your understanding continuously as you uncover better approaches to difficult problems. You embrace the ethos of a self-starter who takes ownership, cares deeply about the team, and delivers results that the community around you can rely on.
Nice to have
You have experience at a startup that scaled from early revenue through product-market fit into a growth stage, giving you exposure to evolving priorities and fast-paced execution. You have worked with developer tools, SaaS platforms, or products serving technical users, which helps you empathize with their needs and workflows. You are comfortable with SEO optimization, website performance, analytics tools, and marketing automation platforms that support scalable growth initiatives. You maintain a portfolio of past growth hacks, experiments, or projects that demonstrate your range, creativity, and ability to solve complex problems under uncertainty.
Practical notes
This role is based in the San Francisco Office and is a full-time engagement. The position requires immediate availability and a sustained commitment to executing experiments that drive meaningful growth. No specific visa sponsorship details are provided in this listing.
