About the role
FloSports is building the next generation of its streaming platform, and this role is central to that evolution. You will own the backend systems that power identity, access, and authorization for thousands of concurrent live events. This position requires a high level of ownership over complex distributed workflows and service reliability across the entire ecosystem. You will define technical direction for critical platform components while mentoring other engineers to elevate the overall codebase. Collaboration with product and leadership will be essential to designing solutions that scale globally and meet business demands. You will leverage modern frameworks to ensure secure and efficient access management for our diverse sports communities. Your work will directly impact how athletes, organizers, and fans interact with content on the FloSports platform.

What you'll do
- Drive the modernization of identity and access management across FloSports backend platforms.
- Architect and develop scalable backend services that ensure high availability and performance for live streaming.
- Design robust APIs and event-driven workflows to facilitate seamless communication between microservices.
- Provide technical mentorship through code reviews, design discussions, and guidance to senior engineering staff.
- Utilize AI-driven tools and automation to enhance development quality, consistency, and overall velocity.
- Build and maintain backend services using TypeScript, NestJS, and Node.js with a strong emphasis on testing and reliability.
- Implement solutions using AWS services such as Aurora, EventBridge, Lambda, DynamoDB, and S3 for resilient distributed systems.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver technical solutions that align with strategic business objectives.
- Champion best practices in security, testing, CI/CD, observability, and service ownership across the engineering organization.
- Explore and prototype new patterns in asynchronous communication to improve system resilience and scalability.
- Define standards for authentication and authorization frameworks to ensure consistent implementation across products.
- Optimize database performance and reliability for both SQL and NoSQL stores in high-throughput environments.
- Lead the adoption of infrastructure as code and automated deployment pipelines to streamline operations.
- Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies that improve developer experience and system maintainability.
- Collaborate with data teams to ensure backend services provide accurate and timely information for analytics.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor's Degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Data Science or a related field.
- Demonstrate extensive experience designing and scaling distributed systems and service-oriented architectures in production environments.
- Show a deep understanding of authentication and authorization frameworks including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, RBAC, and ABAC.
- Exhibit strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js, applying advanced design patterns and maintainable code practices consistently.
- Possess experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases such as DynamoDB, Aurora, and Firestore for complex data models.
- Prove success in building and maintaining RESTful APIs and event-driven systems that handle real-time workloads.
- Maintain a solid understanding of AWS services and cloud-native architecture to build reliable and cost-effective solutions.
- Adhere to strong testing discipline and demonstrate familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automation workflows.
- Display demonstrated technical leadership through mentorship and effective communication with engineering teams.
- Demonstrate experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering outcomes and productivity.
Nice to have
- Bring experience with SST or similar serverless deployment frameworks to streamline infrastructure management.
- Show familiarity with event-driven and asynchronous system patterns in high-scale applications.
- Have experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
- Show knowledge of data validation frameworks such as Zod to ensure type safety and input correctness.
- Contribute within an Agile environment and help define cross-team standards for engineering excellence.
