This position sits at the heart of FloSports' mission to serve underserved sports by architecting and running the live streaming platform that connects global audiences to thousands of events. You will own the design, operation, and continuous optimization of the production video pipeline across a wide array of sports and event types. The role demands a high level of ownership, where you will be accountable for the reliability and performance of the full signal chain under real-world broadcast conditions. You will partner closely with product and engineering teams to define and ship new capabilities that expand what is possible for our athletes and communities. As a hands-on technical leader, you will balance deep implementation work with strategic improvements to scalability and resilience. Your work will directly impact the experience of fans and rights holders who depend on our platform for consistent, high-quality access.

What you'll do
Operate, automate, and continuously improve the live broadcast video pipeline encompassing contribution, transcoding, packaging, and delivery for tens of thousands of annual events.
Monitor and safeguard stream health and viewer quality of experience at scale, building the tooling and alerting required to identify and resolve issues before they impact audiences.
Design and implement robust data models and execute complex queries within SQL databases to support streaming workflows and analytics.
Build and maintain scalable backend microservices using Node.js/NestJS and/or Go, ensuring clean architecture and high performance.
Write and execute comprehensive unit and integration tests using frameworks such as Jest and Vitest to validate functionality and prevent regressions.
Develop clean, maintainable, and well-tested code that adheres to best practices and contributes to a sustainable codebase.
Participate actively in code reviews, promoting a culture of knowledge sharing, continuous learning, and collaborative improvement.
Collaborate with product managers and cross-functional stakeholders to define requirements, prioritize features, and deliver solutions that meet business and user needs.
Diagnose and resolve live broadcast and streaming pipeline issues in real time during active events, driving lasting improvements to redundancy and failover strategies.
Evaluate, prototype, and integrate technologies that enhance the reliability, efficiency, and scalability of the streaming infrastructure.
Contribute to architectural decisions that support long-term growth, security, and operational excellence across the platform.
Serve as a technical role model and mentor, helping elevate the overall quality and reliability of the engineering organization.
Requirements
Demonstrate hands-on experience operating live broadcast video at scale in production, including multi-event, multi-channel contribution, transcoding, packaging, and delivery.
Possess a deep understanding of the live broadcast signal chain, with specific knowledge of redundancy, failover, and graceful degradation under live conditions.
Show proficiency with live streaming transport protocols such as SRT, RTMP, Zixi, and WebRTC, and how they integrate with media pipelines.
Exhibit strong proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js and/or Go, including a deep grasp of language features, asynchronous patterns, and design patterns.
Have experience working with SQL databases to design schemas, optimize queries, and ensure data integrity.
Bring experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs that are scalable, well-documented, and secure.
Show familiarity with backend frameworks such as NestJS or similar tools to structure applications effectively.
Have a track record of writing and executing unit and integration tests using Jest and Vitest to ensure high code quality.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated testing into deployment workflows is essential.
Bring familiarity with cloud infrastructure, with a preference for AWS services such as EC2, Lambda, and S3.
Nice to have
Demonstrated experience with tools like AWS Elemental and video encoding tools such as OBS and vMix.
Hands-on experience with NoSQL solutions like Firebase or Firestore for specific streaming use cases.
Experience with messaging solutions including SNS, SQS, MQTT, Kafka, and Google Cloud Pub/Sub.
Familiarity with event-driven architectures and designing systems for real-time data processing.
Practical experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
Knowledge of security best practices for API development, authentication, and sensitive data handling.
Previous experience working in Agile development environments with sprint planning and retrospectives.
Background using end-to-end testing frameworks to validate user workflows and platform reliability.
