About the role

Five9 is a cloud communications provider that builds contact center and customer engagement platforms delivered entirely over the internet. The Senior Cloud Platform Engineer will join the platform engineering team responsible for the infrastructure and services that power Five9's cloud offerings across global regions. This role focuses on designing, building, and maintaining the cloud platform that supports Five9's contact center products at scale and high availability. The engineer will work closely with development teams to ensure the platform is reliable, performant, and ready for production workloads while continuously improving the developer experience.

What you'll do

• Design and implement cloud-native infrastructure components that support Five9's contact center platform operations.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment of platform services.
• Monitor platform health and performance metrics, responding to incidents and driving root cause analysis.
• Collaborate with development teams to define platform requirements and make architectural decisions together.
• Write infrastructure-as-code templates using declarative configuration management tools for reproducible and consistent environments.
• Optimize cloud resource usage and cost management practices across the platform environment.
• Conduct code reviews and provide technical guidance to junior platform engineers on the team.
• Participate in on-call rotations and ensure clear documentation of operational procedures and runbooks.
• Evaluate new cloud services and tooling that can improve platform reliability and development velocity.
• Contribute to the design of multi-region deployment strategies for high availability and disaster recovery.
• Create runbooks and operational documentation for platform services and incident response procedures.
• Partner with security teams to implement platform-level controls and meet compliance requirements.
• Troubleshoot production issues related to networking, storage, and compute resources in the cloud.
• Automate manual operational tasks to reduce toil and improve platform engineering efficiency.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical field from an accredited institution.
• 5 or more years of hands-on experience in cloud platform engineering or a comparable infrastructure role.
• Strong understanding of container orchestration systems including Kubernetes, pod networking, and container runtime concepts.
• Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud provider such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Go, or Bash for writing automation and tooling.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi to manage cloud resources declaratively.
• Familiarity with CI/CD systems including Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions for build and release workflows.
• Solid knowledge of networking fundamentals including DNS resolution, load balancing, and service mesh concepts.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Experience with version control systems such as Git and collaborative development workflows across distributed teams.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with observability platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog for system monitoring.
• Background in contact center or communications technology along with relevant protocols and standards.
• Familiarity with service mesh technologies such as Istio or Linkerd deployed in production environments.
• Contributions to open source projects related to cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, or distributed systems observability.
• Experience with chaos engineering practices and resilience testing in distributed systems.
