About Investors Chronicle

Investors Chronicle, the investment magazine and website, is looking for a bright, numerate financial journalist to provide in-depth news, analysis and comment on quoted companies and the wider investment industry. The successful candidate will be required to produce a variety of content including news and results analysis, podcasts, comment and features. Previous experience of equity markets and investment would be a clear advantage.

What you'll do

• Turn company reports and sometimes technical subject matter into lively and opinionated content for a retail investor audience.
• Produce data-led content informing our readers about companies and sector trends.
• Interview FTSE 100 chief executives and finance directors, as well as equity analysts and fund managers.
• Contribute a wide range of articles on a daily, weekly and longer term basis including, but not limited to, news, Ideas, company results, analysis and features.
• Ensure that the content is fresh, actionable, agenda-setting, authoritative, relevant, that it caters for the sophisticated demands of our audience while being accessible to newer investors and cements our position as an indispensable source of information for investors.
• Work closely with the companies and news desks to attend regular meetings discussing content ideas and help to form part of the planning for both website and magazine output of the team.
• Contribute to reader engagement initiatives such as podcasts, webinars and also contribute ideas to enhance reader engagement with our content.
• Work with the digital editor to grow online audiences.
• Synthesise complex financial data into clear narratives that help readers make informed decisions.
• Challenge assumptions in corporate filings and earnings commentary through rigorous questioning and cross-referencing.
• Maintain a pipeline of story ideas that balance reactive news with deeper investigative projects.
• Translate regulatory updates and market rules into practical guidance for private investors.
• Represent the voice of the retail investor in internal discussions about coverage priorities.
• Partner with the audio team to develop scripts for podcasts that explain market moves in plain language.
• Track engagement metrics and adjust tone, structure, and timing to improve reader understanding and retention.

Requirements

You'll bring to the role...

• The analytical skills required to get behind the numbers and fluff of financial statements and come to well-argued conclusions.
• The writing skills required to turn technical subject matter into lively and opinionated copy for a retail investor audience.
• An interest in the corporate world and investment.
• Relevant experience in corporate writing and/or analysis.
• A demonstrable track record of meeting strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong command of English, with impeccable grammar and precision in storytelling.
• Comfort with numbers and an ability to interpret financial tables, ratios, and trends without simplification of substance.
• Willingness to adhere to the FT group standards of accuracy, fairness, and transparency in all output.

Practical notes

This is a hybrid role based in London, requiring 50% onsite presence in accordance with team agreements and periodic reviews. Flexible working requests will be considered, though not all patterns are viable for this position. You must be available during standard UK office hours for live reporting and interviews. The role may evolve after a formal review period, potentially increasing onsite days or shifting responsibilities. Travel within the UK for desk reviews or occasional studio visits may be required. This position is not open to remote candidates residing outside the UK without clear visa sponsorship arrangements.
