About the role
Faire operates a wholesale marketplace connecting independent retailers with brands across the globe. The Risk team is looking for a detail-oriented associate to evaluate business legitimacy and manage credit exposure. In this capacity, you will own the end to end verification process for new marketplace participants, ensuring that every onboarding meets strict compliance standards. You will serve as the primary investigator when data points appear inconsistent, using structured logic to close potential gaps in information. The role requires you to balance rigorous risk controls with a supportive customer experience, preserving trust in the platform. You will translate ambiguous signals from the market into clear decisions that protect both buyers and sellers. This position is critical to maintaining the integrity of the network while enabling sustainable growth for the business.

What you'll do
- Conduct deep assessments of retailer and brand legitimacy using layered data sources including geolocation signals, social media footprints, and direct outreach conversations.
- Design and refine internal risk management procedures and operational tools to streamline verification workflows and reduce manual errors.
- Monitor account balances and credit limits in real time, identifying trends that indicate potential overexposure or financial distress.
- Collaborate closely with Support and Sales departments to resolve complex cases, improving operational efficiency and overall customer satisfaction.
- Analyze patterns across fragmented data sets, drawing reasoned conclusions that inform risk ratings and onboarding outcomes.
- Draft clear, professional email communications to merchants, explaining verification requests, decisions, and required documentation with empathy and precision.
- Partner with cross functional stakeholders to document standard operating procedures, ensuring consistency and scalability of verification practices.
- Evaluate new documentation and identification materials, determining their authenticity and alignment with platform policies.
- Escalate high risk findings to senior risk analysts, providing detailed notes and evidence to support further investigation or intervention.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by testing new tools, providing feedback, and validating the effectiveness of updated workflows.
Requirements
- Bring a minimum of 1 year of professional experience in compliance operations, financial services, or technology, with demonstrated responsibility for verifying identities or transactions.
- Show a proven ability to identify patterns and draw conclusions from fragmented data sources, connecting disparate information into a coherent assessment.
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, maintaining a professional tone in all email interactions with customers and internal partners.
- Apply proven conflict-resolution skills to navigate tense situations, balancing risk mitigation with user experience in every decision.
- Exhibit flexibility and resilience when working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and tight timelines.
- Confirm willingness to work weekends on a monthly basis to support coverage needs and maintain verification throughput.
- Adhere to company policies and regulatory guidelines, ensuring that all verification activities are completed with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive merchant information, aligning all actions with data protection standards and internal controls.
Nice to have
- Background in Fraud, Trust and Safety, or Risk teams, with a track record of applying structured frameworks to evaluate business risk.
- Proficiency with systems such as Notion, Mode, and Zendesk, leveraging these tools to track cases, document findings and manage workflows.
- SQL skills and experience with data driven analysis, enabling you to extract, filter, and interpret data sets to support verification decisions.

Practical notes
