Faire operates a global wholesale marketplace connecting independent retailers with unique brands to help local businesses compete. We are seeking engineers to join our Growth team to build features that drive retailer acquisition, activation, and long-term retention. This role involves fullstack, backend, or frontend work across product initiatives that directly impact our marketplace dynamics. You will own the design and execution of high-impact projects that shape how retailers discover and engage with our platform on a daily basis. The position requires deep collaboration with cross-functional partners to translate business goals into scalable technical solutions. You will analyze complex user behavior to inform product investments and ensure system reliability meets ambitious standards. This role gives you direct influence over the long-term roadmap and strategic technical direction for the Growth team. You will be responsible for executing experiments that validate hypotheses and optimize key business metrics in a fast-paced environment.

What you'll do
- Lead high-impact projects focused on retailer acquisition, onboarding, and engagement from initial concept to production deployment.
- Design and execute experiments to test hypotheses and improve key business metrics using data-driven decision making.
- Partner with Product, Design, Data Science, Analytics, and Marketing to identify growth opportunities and define success metrics.
- Collaborate with the Marketing team on campaign optimization and marketing technology to improve acquisition and conversion.
- Analyze customer behavior data to guide future product investments and system improvements that enhance retailer experience.
- Develop scalable product experiences and maintain high standards for system reliability, performance, and security.
- Influence the long-term roadmap and technical strategy for the Growth team through proactive contribution and insight.
- Implement features using modern frontend technologies to create responsive and intuitive retailer interfaces.
- Build robust backend services with Kotlin and Java to support marketplace dynamics and high-volume transaction processing.
- Integrate with datastores such as MySQL and CockroachDB to ensure efficient and reliable data management.
- Utilize feature flagging and A/B testing frameworks to safely roll out changes and measure impact accurately.
- Work with AWS infrastructure including EC2, S3, and RDS to deploy and maintain scalable cloud solutions.
- Use Docker for containerization to streamline development workflows and ensure consistent environments.
- Communicate technical trade-offs and product decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong track record of delivering production systems.
- Proficiency in building backend systems using languages such as Kotlin and Java with frameworks like Guice and Jersey.
- Proven ability to ship customer-facing products that drive measurable outcomes and positively impact marketplace metrics.
- Strong problem-solving skills and experience working in cross-functional teams with diverse perspectives.
- Interest in data-informed decision making and experimentation to validate ideas and optimize results.
- Experience with relational databases such as MySQL and distributed databases like CockroachDB for data modeling and querying.
- Familiarity with HTTP, REST, and JSON protocols when designing and consuming APIs for system integration.
- Understanding of infrastructure concepts on AWS including compute, storage, and relational database services.
- Ability to write clean, maintainable code using TypeScript, JavaScript, and modern UI frameworks for frontend development.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards for system reliability, observability, and error handling in production.
- Willingness to follow established processes while actively contributing to improvements in engineering practices.
- Readiness to collaborate closely with designers, product managers, and analysts to iterate on solutions.
- Openness to learning new tools and technologies to address evolving business needs and technical challenges.
- Willingness to work within the constraints of a hybrid schedule and remote work policies as defined by the role.

- History of working on products at significant scale with high traffic and complex user workflows.
Practical notes
This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days per week in the office on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and one flex day chosen in coordination with the team. Employees have the flexibility to work remotely for up to 4 weeks per year. The engagement is full-time with compensation between $156,000 and $214,500 CAD per year, plus equity and benefits. No other locations or alternative arrangements are available under current policy.
