The Opportunity
Exowatt is seeking a Lead Power Electronics Engineer to spearhead the development of its next-generation, multi-megawatt class, multi-port power conversion solution. This position entails ownership of the complete system architecture, definition of product and engineering requirements, evaluation of strategic partners, oversight of the development process, and preparation for validation and certification. The role focuses on a high-power solution that leverages advanced technologies, including Silicon Carbide (SiC), Gallium Nitride (GaN), and/or Solid State Transformer (SST) architectures.
The ideal candidate is a senior technical expert with a proven track record of designing, developing, or commissioning power conversion systems at the hundreds of kilowatts to multi-megawatt scale. The person must possess hands-on experience with high-power converter design, grid-interactive operations, controls integration, protective schemes, thermal and mechanical design, electromagnetic interference and compatibility (EMI/EMC), safety protocols, and certification procedures.
This role requires close collaboration with product, systems, controls, firmware, mechanical, thermal, manufacturing, supply chain, and external development teams. The objective is to deliver a robust, MW-level multi-port power solution that reaches certification readiness by the fourth quarter of 2027. The position is based in Miami, Florida, necessitating relocation to the area. Exowatt offers relocation assistance to support this transition.
Key Responsibilities
You will define the architecture and validation strategy for a multi-port power solution, translating the demands of AI loads into specific hardware requirements while coordinating with controls teams and partners. You will own the system requirements and certification strategy to ensure the final product meets all performance and safety standards.
Your responsibilities include architecting the power conversion pathway from energy intake to shipment, all while managing partner relationships and certification targets. You will design power modules capable of converting solar energy, stored as heat, into a steady MW-level output suitable for peak grid demand periods. Evaluating external components and vendors will be critical to ensure compatibility with chosen SiC, GaN, and SST component technologies.
You will build and implement controls and protection logic to maintain multi-port hardware stability under fluctuating load conditions. Reviewing thermal and mechanical layouts will fall within your purview to ensure power density and airflow can support continuous high-energy throughput. You will develop and execute validation routines to confirm safety, performance, and adherence to grid codes prior to the Q4 2027 deadline. Coordination with manufacturing and supply chain teams will be essential to lock down tolerances and achieve production readiness for the platform. You will also guide external partners through testing and documentation to reduce risk and streamline the path to certification.
Requirements
You must have direct experience directing power electronics projects ranging from hundreds of kilowatts to multiple megawatts. A history of designing grid-connected converters that can manage real-world dynamics and comply with stringent safety regulations is required. You must demonstrate a deep understanding of controls integration, protection schemes, thermal management strategies, and electromagnetic compatibility challenges.
Hands-on experience with mechanical layout, shielding, and certification processes for high-energy systems is necessary. You must be prepared to relocate to Miami, Florida, and utilize the relocation support provided by Exowatt.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with Silicon Carbide (SiC), Gallium Nitride (GaN), or Solid State Transformer (SST) based architectures is highly valued.
Compensation and Location
This full-time position offers a competitive annual compensation range of $180,000 to $240,000 USD. The role is based in Miami, FL, and requires relocation to the area. Exowatt provides assistance with the relocation process.
