Everstar is seeking a skilled Hardware Engineer to become a vital part of our Research and Development team, which specializes in Military Technology solutions. In this role, you will play a key part in the design, testing, and scaling of hardware that has already demonstrated its reliability across numerous missions. What you'll do

• Develop detailed electrical schematics and multilayer printed circuit boards (PCBs) utilizing Altium Designer.
• Design and optimize circuit boards for various applications, including motor controllers, inertial measurement units (IMUs), video modules, and power distribution systems.
• Create device architectures that are tailored for efficient mass production.
• Select appropriate components while considering market availability and supply chain limitations.
• Enhance PCB designs to comply with electromagnetic interference (EMI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards, as well as thermal requirements and budget constraints.
• Produce comprehensive manufacturing documentation, including Gerber files, Pick and Place data, assembly drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs) with alternative components.
• Establish and implement testing protocols to validate hardware performance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design integrity and functionality throughout the development process.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during the prototyping and testing phases.
• Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in PCB technology to continuously improve design practices.
• Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers and interns as needed.

Requirements

• A minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in PCB development, preferably with a focus on serial production projects.
• Demonstrated success in transitioning electronic boards from design to manufacturing.
• Proficient in using Altium Designer or KiCad for PCB design.
• Strong understanding of both analog and digital circuit design, including power electronics.
• Practical experience with DC/DC converters and microcontrollers, such as STM32 or ESP32, along with communication protocols like SPI, I2C, UART, and CAN.
• Expertise in PCB routing techniques, especially for high-speed signals.
• Familiarity with board bring-up processes and debugging techniques.
• Experience sourcing components through platforms like Mouser, Digi-Key, LCSC, and local suppliers.
• Ability to manage BOM risks effectively, identify end-of-life (EOL) or not recommended for new design (NRND) components, and select suitable functional equivalents.
• Understanding of the limitations associated with surface-mount technology (SMT) assembly.

Nice to have

• Experience in assembling and configuring unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
• Knowledge of brushless DC (BLDC) control algorithms, particularly field-oriented control (FOC).
• Familiarity with video interface standards, including MIPI CSI, I-PEX, and microcoaxial cables.
• Experience with navigating the certification processes for CE or FCC compliance.
• A history of collaborating with contract PCB manufacturers to ensure quality and efficiency.

Skills & tools

• Proficient in Altium Designer and KiCad for PCB design.
• Experienced with microcontrollers such as STM32 and ESP32.
• Knowledgeable in communication protocols including SPI, I2C, UART, and CAN.
• Skilled in EMI/EMC design principles and thermal management techniques.
• Competent in BOM management and adhering to SMT assembly standards.
