About the role
E-Space is seeking a dedicated PCB Design Engineer to join its mission of making connectivity from space universally accessible, secure, and actionable. This position is central to the company's goal of building a next-generation low Earth orbit (LEO) space system that transforms how Internet of Things (IoT) solutions are designed, manufactured, and delivered. The role focuses exclusively on the realization of production-ready hardware designs. Success in this position ensures that satellite communication boards are defined with precision, built for reliability, and optimized for high-volume deployment. The ideal candidate acts as the critical link between complex system specifications and tangible electronic hardware. You will translate demanding mission requirements into detailed digital board definitions, working in lockstep with hardware engineering and mission operations teams. Every decision you make will be guided by the principles of Design for Excellence (DFX), with a strong emphasis on production readiness, manufacturability, and long-term operational integrity. This is not a radio frequency or circuit theory design position; however, prior experience with RF or circuit design is considered a valuable asset.
Key Responsibilities
Your daily work will establish the foundation for how satellite hardware is built and operated. You will draft initial board layouts that adhere to current design guidelines, ensuring a manufacturable baseline for complex systems. Component selection and placement will be a core focus, as you guide decisions to optimize signal behavior and manage thermal performance in alignment with overarching mission objectives. You will own the establishment of routing rules and constraints, a critical task when managing high layer-count boards. This work is designed to keep complexity manageable and to significantly reduce the risk of costly rework. Design reviews will be a standard part of your process, where you will verify strict adherence to standards and proactively identify potential integration issues before they escalate. Collaboration with manufacturing partners is essential. You will coordinate closely to refine documentation and guarantee that fabrication outputs are accurate and complete. When project requirements change, you will implement necessary modifications while rigorously preserving board stability and full traceability. Validation of prototype assembly will fall within your scope, requiring you to confirm correct part orientation and connection integrity by comparing results against the original schematics. Finally, you will support qualification testing efforts, documenting observations and proposing fixes that directly contribute to improvements in hardware reliability.
Requirements
To excel in this role, you must bring a proven track record of at least three years creating intricate schematics and layouts using Altium Designer. You must be capable of handling boards with exceptionally high layer counts that contain complex digital or mixed-signal components. The ability to interpret dense system requirements and convert them into detailed, production-ready files is non-negotiable. A deep understanding of production documentation, and the specific information required for both board fabrication and assembly, is mandatory. You must demonstrate a consistent commitment to following established procedures and guidelines without deviation. The role requires the capacity to manage multiple project priorities in a deadline-driven environment while maintaining meticulous attention to detail. You should be comfortable working independently with a high degree of ownership over your deliverables and their impact on mission success.
