Senior 5G Software Test Engineer, Physical Layer
Job description
About the role
Position Overview
Are you prepared to deliver secure, intelligent connectivity from orbit to every corner of the globe? If so, this opportunity aligns with your ambition. E-Space operates at the intersection of Earth and orbit, enabling massive IoT deployments that were previously impossible. We are engineering a next-generation Low Earth Orbit constellation to revolutionize how IoT solutions are designed, built, and serviced.
Our mission is bold. We are 100% dedicated to advancing space-based communications, generating actionable data for global economies, safeguarding our planet and assets in space, and improving daily life. We seek a meticulous engineer who shares our inquisitive mindset and commitment to excellence.
Role Definition
The incumbent will set the standard for 5G physical layer validation in a high-growth environment. You will own the verification strategy, ensuring software correctness and performance for real-time implementations. The focus spans both central processing units and hardware accelerators, demanding rigorous attention to detail. You will act as the primary liaison between software logic and radio performance.
Collaboration is central to this position. You will work directly with software developers, RF specialists, digital signal processing experts, and hardware engineers. Your analysis will resolve intricate integration challenges, aligning test methods with protocol specifications. This role is based in the United States, with options in Arlington, TX, or Saratoga, CA.
Key Responsibilities
You will architect testing workflows that define channel conditions, model propagation environments, and map requirements to specific releases.
You will develop verification frameworks that synchronize software models with hardware execution paths, ensuring consistent validation results.
You will analyze waveform captures, system logs, and performance telemetry to pinpoint timing anomalies and processing bottlenecks.
You will deliver test packages and regression suites that validate release candidates against strict quality and schedule constraints.
You will partner with RF and link budget experts to validate theoretical models against practical implementation.
You will guide engineering teams through difficult technical issues, documenting procedures and confirming resolutions adhere to standards.
You will maintain living documentation that reflects new environmental scenarios, protocol states, and boundary conditions.
You will refine automation scripts, optimize test execution speed, and manage the infrastructure that enables continuous validation cycles.
Professional Profile
You bring three to five years of specialized experience testing cellular or satellite communication systems. Your background includes protocol-level or physical-layer verification. You comprehend the intricacies of 3GPP specifications governing radio transmission and baseband processing. Proficiency with Python is essential for building analysis tools and driving automation.
You can navigate C or C++ codebases, interpreting system logs and correlating findings with processor-level execution. You configure test benches for both x86 and Arm architectures, with exposure to accelerator integration. You are experienced in using signal generation, channel simulation, and measurement instruments to validate timing, capacity, and integrity metrics.
Additional Qualifications
Hands-on experience with 5G New Radio test equipment, over-the-air testbeds, or channel simulators is advantageous.
Core Competencies
Python, C, C++, 5G NR, Physical Layer, 3GPP Specifications, Continuous Integration, Git, Test Instruments, Jira.
