Senior Product Quality Engineer
Job description
About the role
Epirus operates at the intersection of software and power systems to address national security challenges. The company's flagship platform, Leonidas, employs intelligent power management to deliver enhanced capability with constrained energy resources. This role defines quality for that platform and directs the entire quality lifecycle for assigned programs. You will operate in a fast paced, regulated environment where decisions directly influence mission outcomes.
Job Summary
You will serve as the senior quality authority for complex electro mechanical systems, owning quality strategy from initial intake through full scale production. The position requires agile responses to evolving requirements while maintaining rigorous compliance. You will partner with engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain to embed quality into every step of the development cycle. Success in this role will depend on your ability to coordinate cross functional teams, resolve issues early, and drive continuous improvement. This is a full time position based in Torrance, California.
Responsibilities
You will develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance processes that satisfy AS9100, customer, and internal standards. These activities will cover the full product lifecycle, from initial concept through deployment and field feedback. You will lead nonconformance investigations, conduct root cause analysis, and oversee corrective action plans to closure. Your work will ensure that product and process audits are executed effectively and that inspection capabilities remain validated.
You will architect test strategies that reflect design intent while balancing risk tradeoffs among engineering and manufacturing stakeholders. This includes defining verification and validation approaches that align with program schedules and technical requirements. You will manage review cycles to surface issues early and guide resolution before they escalate. You will coordinate with suppliers to enforce quality expectations and to resolve issues in the upstream chain.
You will own the execution of verification activities, interpret results, and establish release criteria that allow safe shipment under regulatory constraints. This includes managing material review board activities and ensuring that disposition decisions are documented and followed. You will translate contractual terms and regulatory clauses into actionable checklists that control how systems are built and validated.
You will establish partner quality standards that enable traceability across hardware and software components. You will set up dashboards to track quality metrics, using data to reveal trends and drive process adjustments. These metrics will inform long term reliability goals and support decisions on design changes. You will champion continuous improvement by updating methods, tools, and training as programs mature.
Requirements
You will coordinate work across multiple electro mechanical assemblies while managing simultaneous design changes and supplier interfaces. You must understand how changes in one domain can affect others, and you will communicate impacts clearly. You will apply AS9100 knowledge to processes, audits, and documentation that must satisfy government and contractual conditions.
You will handle nonconformance investigations, root cause analysis, and MRB activities that directly affect delivery schedules. You will interpret test results and inspection data to define verification criteria that determine whether products can proceed. You will exercise judgment to balance technical findings with program risk tolerance and regulatory obligations.
You will bring a minimum of five years of experience guiding quality for complex hardware programs in regulated environments. This background should include exposure to defense, aerospace, or related sectors where compliance is mandatory. You must be comfortable working with cross functional teams and suppliers to resolve issues quickly and thoroughly.
Nice To Have
Experience with defense electronics, power systems, or safety critical applications will strengthen your contribution. Familiarity with military standards, test methods, and reliability analysis is highly valuable. Knowledge of software quality practices as they intersect with hardware systems is also beneficial.
Skills And Tools
You will work closely with the Leonidas platform and related tooling to manage quality activities. You will use standard quality management systems to track issues, audits, and corrective actions. Data analysis skills will help you build and interpret quality dashboards that guide decision making. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential to convey technical information to diverse audiences.
