Cloud & IoT Service Engineer
Job description
Cloud & IoT Service Engineer at Embedding Vc.
Location: USA
Engagement: Full-time
Team: global teams, including China-based partners
Years: 3+
Visa: unspecified
Degree: unspecified
About the role
Cloud-native and IoT infrastructure platforms support connected products and services across industries. The role coordinates technical decisions with regional partners to meet local requirements.
Software engineers turn product ideas into working code. Engineers work in small teams, review each other's work, and ship in small batches. Most teams follow agile practices such as sprints and daily standups. Engineers also write tests, fix bugs, and improve performance. The field values clear communication as much as technical skill. Engineers spend part of every week on planning, code review, and debugging, not just writing new code. The ability to explain a technical decision in plain words separates strong engineers from the rest.
Key facts
What you'll do
Resilient backend infrastructure for connected devices and cross-regional data flows supports platform operations. Teams design and maintain this infrastructure to ensure high availability and scalability across regions.
Engineers tune clusters and edge resources to meet latency and reliability targets for these workloads.
Global teams receive reliable pipelines and infrastructure-as-code through DevOps and automation initiatives.
These scripts standardize data quality and protect information across data centers and regions.
Engineers use these tools to detect issues early and restore services quickly.
Infrastructure aligns with regional requirements via coordination with China-based engineering and business teams. Collaboration ensures that deployments and configurations satisfy local policies and standards.
Audits identify weaknesses and guide improvements to protect devices and services.
Requirements
Experience with cloud operations on large-scale, distributed systems totals 3+ years, with AWS preferred on Million-User Scale platforms.
Proficiency in Linux, Kubernetes, Jenkins, and containerization tools such as Docker is required. Command of these tools ensures reliable deployment and management of cloud workloads.
Strong skills in Python automation and RESTful API integration, along with Shell scripting, are mandatory. Professionals write and maintain automation to integrate services and handle operations at scale.
Nice to have
Experience with Terraform, Prometheus, Grafana, or big data tools such as Athena and Kafka benefits observability and automation across cloud and IoT domains. These tools help visualize metrics and manage infrastructure as code.
Understanding of IoT protocols including MQTT, H2, and WebRtc, plus edge-cloud collaboration, improves platform integration. Familiarity with these protocols supports efficient data transfer and device communication.
Practical notes
This role involves cross-regional collaboration, including coordination with China-based teams. The position may include relocation support, flexible remote work arrangements, and travel as required. Typical interview steps
Hiring for engineering roles usually starts with a recruiter screen, followed by one or two technical rounds. Candidates often solve a coding problem, discuss past projects, and answer system design questions. Some loops include a take-home task. Final rounds typically cover team fit and give candidates a chance to ask questions. Interviewers look for how you break down an unfamiliar problem, not just whether you reach the answer. Practicing a few problems aloud and reviewing your own past projects are the best preparation.
Good to know
Cloud and IoT service engineers manage infrastructure that keeps connected devices operational at scale. Work often involves AWS services, container orchestration, and automation scripting. Security and compliance are central, especially for data crossing jurisdictions. Collaboration across time zones and cultures is common in global product and infrastructure teams.
